This book contains Doctor Lumpkin's translation to English of the extracanonical stories describing Adam and Eve after they were cast out of the Garden of Eden. Having lain in a cave in northeast Africa for centuries prior to their discovery, the stories are intended to clarify what became of the first ever man and woman after they succumbed to temptation. Although not considered canon, they have received interest by Biblical scholars who have translated the original Ge'ez into various European languages. We hear the stories of Adam and Eve as they navigate the wilderness and eventually settle down to form a family. Their initial departure is marred by Eve fainting in shock at the landscape before them: God, however, offers encouragement and the pair are able to venture forth into the great unknown. Various other characters of the Biblical canon are introduced - Satan, having followed the pair from the Garden of Eden, attempts to further tempt and lead Adam and Eve astray by promising redemption or an easier life. The challenge of rearing and raising children is also detailed, with the formative years of Cain, Abel and their twin sisters occupying several chapters. Frequently, Adam and Eve consult with God through prayer. The Lord, although still angered by his creation's succumbing to the forbidden fruit upon the free, intervenes multiple times to offer guidance through the hardship. God teaches Adam that the difficulties of hunger, thirst, fatigue and pain are to be a part of life, but in sympathy to Adam's plight offers a bough of figs to ease his way. An intriguing supplement to the Book of Genesis, The First and Second Books of Adam and Eve remains a text of some interest to Biblical scholars and adherents of Christianity.

Among the first seven scrolls discovered in the caves of Qumran at the Dead Sea is a scroll given the name, "The Book of Giants." It is thought to have been based on the Book of Enoch, a pseudepigraphical Jewish work from the 3rd century BCE. The Book of Giants, like the Book of Enoch, concerns itself with the Nephilim, which are the offspring of fallen angels, who are called the Watchers. Two main versions of the text exist. The Dead Sea version is written in Aramaic. Another version has been found written in middle Persian, adapted from the Aramaic to fit into the Manichean religion. Both versions will be examined.Following theories speculating that the Book of Giants was once part of the Book of Enoch, we will attempt to place the two texts back together to render the complete story of the Watchers and the Nephilim. We will discover the history and contributions of these ancient scrolls and look carefully at their content and meaning. This book includes 1 Enoch: The Ethiopic Book of Enoch; 2 Enoch: The Slavonic Book of the Secrets of Enoch; 3 Enoch: The Hebrew Book of Enoch; and versions of the Book of Giants. The 1st Book of Enoch, the Ethiopic Book of Enoch, or 1 Enoch is more known as simply the Book of Enoch. Although this book is considered apocryphal for the Western canon, it is contained in the Ethiopic Bible. It was considered sacred by some important first followers of Christ but it was left out of the Bible and disappeared for centuries until it was rediscovered in 1773 in Ethiopic. This manuscript was first translated into English in the 1820s and into German in the 1830s. According to most scholars, part of it was written in third century BCE and part of it in the first century CE (the part related to the Son of Man). Although the oldest complete copies of 1 Enoch are K-9 or Kebran 9, dated late fourteenth early fifteenth century and Ethiopian Monastic Microfilm Library (EMML 2080) of the fifteenth or fourteenth century, fragments found in Qumram in the 1950s are more than 2000 years old. Other old important manuscripts are Abbadianus 55 (possibly fifteenth century) and British Museum Orient 485 (first half of the sixteenth century). The 2nd Book of Enoch, the Slavonic Enoch, or 2 Enoch, is another apocryphal book, found complete only in Old Slavonic manuscripts, and it was once present in the Old Slavonic Bible. It's usually dated to the first century CE although Matthew Black in The Oxford Guide to People & Places of the Bible state that there is no manuscript "earlier than the fourteenth century BE." The 3rd Book of Enoch, the Hebrew Enoch, or 3 Enoch, is a Rabbinic text originally written in Hebrew usually dated to the fifth century CE. Some experts believe it was written by Rabbi Ishmael (second century CE), familiar with both 1 Enoch and 2 Enoch. The Book of Giants contains a narrative that involves the antediluvian giant offspring originally known from both the Genesis and the Book of Enoch. The Book of Giants resembles particularly 1 Enoch: The First Book of Enoch.
