Book Description :

From the IX Bishop of the Diocese of New Hampshire in the Episcopal Church, the first openly gay person elected to the episcopate and the world’s leading religious spokesperson for gay rights and gay marriage—a groundbreaking book that persuasively makes the case for same-sex marriage using a commonsense, reasoned, religious argument. Robinson holds the religious text of the Bible to be holy and sacred and the ensuing two millennia of church history to be relevant to the discussion. He is equally familiar with the secular and political debate about gay marriage going on in America today, and is someone for whom same-sex marriage is a personal issue; Robinson was married to a woman for fourteen years and is a father of two children and has been married to a man for the last four years of a twenty-five-year relationship. Robinson has a knack for taking complex and controversial issues and addressing them in plain direct language, without using polemics or ideology, putting forth his argument for gay marriage, and bringing together sacred and secular points of view.

Book Description :

Representing a first in gay and Christian publishing, this provocative book presents a complete reversal of thought and action, contending that God loves homosexuals without attempting to refute scripture references. The study confronts its subject with a quirky sense of humor in the spirit of the “bedtime story,” providing a rare evangelical Christian volume addressed directly to the gay community. Unorthodox in its presentation, this guide speaks the language of those who may feel abandoned, condemned, and damned while avoiding reinterpretations of scriptural passages, making the gospel accessible to a younger, free-spirited generation. Spearheading a volatile topic with candor and grace, this consideration reframes the never-ending question, Is homosexuality a sin? and instead asks the gay community for a cease-fire—to forgive, love, and help put a stop to a cultural war being waged in the world.

Book Description :

Marriage and Sexuality by Design is a powerful teaching tool aimed at equipping every believer with solid biblical truth while exposing and correcting the erroneous teachings of LGBT advocates. The Christian community must possess a sound irrefutable working knowledge of the Scriptures or face being misled into error. It is not enough to say "I believe same-sex marriages are wrong," we must clearly understand exactly what the Bible teaches and be capable of sharing the light of God's word with our children, friends, family, and others. We must not allow the unenlightened advocates of same-sex relationships to tell our children "your parents are homophobic ignorant religious freaks." We must lovingly teach God's design for marriage and sexuality. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)Same-sex proponents argue the Bible has always supported homosexuality and same-sex relationships. They insist that King David and Saul's son Jonathan were homosexual lovers, and the book of Ruth illustrates a lesbian relationship between Naomi and her daughter-in-law Ruth. They falsely claim that Jesus taught some people are born homosexuals. In fact, the LGBT affirming church movement openly teaches, practices and condones all same-sex marriages as approved of God. The LGBT agenda to normalize homosexuality is finding acceptance among several denominations as Godly behavior. Believers and pastors must not continue down the path of silence. We must know God's mind on this subject and loving and courageously teach the truth. Marriage and Sexuality by Design offers powerful biblical expositions and detailed analysis of God's immutable and absolute design for marriage and sexuality. You can view a sample reading of the book's contents here or click on the book pic above. During the writing of this book, the debate over God's design for marriage vs. same-sex marriage was trending across America. The LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transsexual) community was gaining sympathy, support, and acceptance for same-sex marriages. The inevitability of the Supreme Court taking up the matter and redefining marriage to include same-sex couples was imminent. On June 26, 2015, the Court's ruling was published in favor of same-sex marriages by a narrow margin of 5-4. Same-sex marriages became legal in all fifty states. The Court's ruling was celebrated by same-sex advocates as a victory, but there is nothing victorious about a man-made law that diametrically opposes God's exclusive design for marriage. The Court's ruling is a departure from the historical evidence and judicial precedent that defines marriage as being exclusively between a man and a woman. The ruling is an ignominious failure, void of wisdom and morality. The toxicity of such a ruling flows from the forbidden behavior it sanctions. The historical teaching of the Holy Scriptures and thousands of years of moral understanding testify against this disgraceful decision. Throughout this book, I will contrast God's design for marriage and sexuality against a growing body of misleading information, corrupted scriptural interpretations, and phantom doctrines based on fabricated stories. The LGBT agenda to normalize same-sex relationships and same-sex unions as an equivalent alternative to heterosexual marriages is completely alien to all biblical and secular history. Moreover, the insistence of some same-sex proponents alleging homosexual relationships was always acceptable and approved by God is without foundation and blatantly wrong.

Book Description :

What causes a child to grow up gay or straight? In this book, neuroscientist Simon LeVay summarizes a wealth of scientific evidence that points to one inescapable conclusion: Sexual orientation results primarily from an interaction between genes, sex hormones, and the cells of the developing body and brain. In this revised edition LeVay broadens his horizons. He adds a new chapter on bisexuality, reviews some uncommon forms of sexuality such as asexuality and pedophilia, and considers whether there could be a biological basis for subtypes of gay people such as "butch" and "femme" lesbians.

Book Description :

A different look at heterosexuality in the twenty-first century A straight white girl can kiss a girl, like it, and still call herself straight—her boyfriend may even encourage her. But can straight white guys experience the same easy sexual fluidity, or would kissing a guy just mean that they are really gay? Not Gay thrusts deep into a world where straight guy-on-guy action is not a myth but a reality: there’s fraternity and military hazing rituals, where new recruits are made to grab each other’s penises and stick fingers up their fellow members’ anuses; online personal ads, where straight men seek other straight men to masturbate with; and, last but not least, the long and clandestine history of straight men frequenting public restrooms for sexual encounters with other men. For Jane Ward, these sexual practices reveal a unique social space where straight white men can—and do—have sex with other straight white men; in fact, she argues, to do so reaffirms rather than challenges their gender and racial identity. Ward illustrates that sex between straight white men allows them to leverage whiteness and masculinity to authenticate their heterosexuality in the context of sex with men. By understanding their same-sex sexual practice as meaningless, accidental, or even necessary, straight white men can perform homosexual contact in heterosexual ways. These sex acts are not slippages into a queer way of being or expressions of a desired but unarticulated gay identity. Instead, Ward argues, they reveal the fluidity and complexity that characterizes all human sexual desire. In the end, Ward’s analysis offers a new way to think about heterosexuality—not as the opposite or absence of homosexuality, but as its own unique mode of engaging in homosexual sex, a mode characterized by pretense, dis-identification and racial and heterosexual privilege. Daring, insightful, and brimming with wit, Not Gay is a fascinating new take on the complexities of heterosexuality in the modern era.

Book Description :

“Heterosexuality,” assumed to denote a universal sexual and cultural norm, has been largely exempt from critical scrutiny. In this boldly original work, Jonathan Ned Katz challenges the common notion that the distinction between heterosexuality and homosexuality has been a timeless one. Building on the history of medical terminology, he reveals that as late as 1923, the term “heterosexuality” referred to a "morbid sexual passion," and that its current usage emerged to legitimate men and women having sex for pleasure. Drawing on the works of Sigmund Freud, James Baldwin, Betty Friedan, and Michel Foucault, The Invention of Heterosexuality considers the effects of heterosexuality’s recently forged primacy on both scientific literature and popular culture. “Lively and provocative.”—Carol Tavris, New York Times Book Review “A valuable primer . . . misses no significant twists in sexual politics.”—Gary Indiana, Village Voice Literary Supplement “One of the most important—if not outright subversive—works to emerge from gay and lesbian studies in years.”—Mark Thompson, The Advocate

Gay TV and Straight America

Gay TV and Straight America Book
Author : Ron Becker

ISBN : 0813539323
Language : En, Es, Fr & De

Book Description :

After decades of silence on the subject of homosexuality, television in the 1990s saw a striking increase in programming that incorporated and, in many cases, centered on gay material. In shows including Friends, Seinfeld, Party of Five, Homicide, Suddenly Susan, The Commish, Ellen, Will & Grace, and others, gay characters were introduced, references to homosexuality became commonplace, and issues of gay and lesbian relationships were explored, often in explicit detail. In Gay TV and Straight America, Ron Becker draws on a wide range of political and cultural indicators to explain this sudden upsurge of gay material on prime-time network television. Bringing together analysis of relevant Supreme Court rulings, media coverage of gay rights battles, debates about multiculturalism, concerns over political correctness, and much more, Becker's assessment helps us understand how and why televised gayness was constructed by a specific culture of tastemakers during the decade. On one hand the evidence points to network business strategies that embraced gay material as a valuable tool for targeting a quality audience of well-educated, upscale adults looking for something "edgy" to watch. But, Becker also argues that the increase of gay material in the public eye creates growing mainstream anxiety in reaction to the seemingly civil public conversation about equal rights. In today's cultural climate where controversies rage over issues of gay marriage yet millions of viewers tune in weekly to programs like Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, this book offers valuable insight to the complex condition of America's sexual politics.

Book Description :

It's surprising that the term "heterosexuality" is less than 150 years old and that heterosexuality's history has never before been written, given how obsessed we are with it. In Straight, independent scholar Hanne Blank delves deep into the contemporary psyche as well as the historical record to chronicle the realm of heterosexual relations--a subject that is anything but straight and narrow. Consider how Catholic monasticism, the reading of novels, the abolition of slavery, leisure time, divorce, and constipation of the bowels have all at some time been labeled enemies of the heterosexual state. With an extensive historical scope and plenty of juicy details and examples, Straight provides a fascinating look at the vagaries, schisms, and contradictions of what has so often been perceived as an irreducible fact of nature.
