Book Description :

The Art of Splitting Stone is a detailed study of the history, tools, and methods used to split, hoist, and transport quarried stone in pre-industrial New England (1630-1825). It is an invaluable resource for historians, archaeologists, and stone masons interested in identifying, dating, or experimenting with early stone splitting and quarrying methods. The amateur researcher and avid outdoors person will find the book useful as a field guide to identifying split boulders and stone quarries abandoned in the woods.

Book Description :

Operator splitting (or the fractional steps method) is a very common tool to analyze nonlinear partial differential equations both numerically and analytically. By applying operator splitting to a complicated model one can often split it into simpler problems that can be analyzed separately. In this book one studies operator splitting for a family of nonlinear evolution equations, including hyperbolic conservation laws and degenerate convection-diffusion equations. Common for these equations is the prevalence of rough, or non-smooth, solutions, e.g., shocks. Rigorous analysis is presented, showing that both semi-discrete and fully discrete splitting methods converge. For conservation laws, sharp error estimates are provided and for convection-diffusion equations one discusses a priori and a posteriori correction of entropy errors introduced by the splitting. Numerical methods include finite difference and finite volume methods as well as front tacking. The theory is illustrated by numerous examples. There is a dedicated web page that provides MATLAB codes for many of the examples. The book is suitable for graduate students and researchers in pure and applied mathematics, physics, and engineering.

Book Description :

Protect Yourself from Manipulation, False Accusations, and Abuse Divorce is difficult under the best of circumstances. When your spouse has borderline personality disorder (BPD), narcissistic personality disorder (NPD), or is manipulative, divorcing can be especially complicated. While people with these tendencies may initially appear convincing and even charming to lawyers and judges, you know better—many of these “persuasive blamers” leverage false accusations, attempt to manipulate others, launch verbal and physical attacks, and do everything they can to get their way. Splitting is your legal and psychological guide to safely navigating a high-conflict divorce from an unpredictable spouse. Written by Bill Eddy, a family lawyer, therapist, and divorce mediator, and Randi Kreger, coauthor of the BPD classic Stop Walking on Eggshells, this book includes all of the critical information you need to work through the process of divorce in an emotionally balanced, productive way. Turn to this guide to help you: Predict what your spouse may do or say in court Take control of your case with assertiveness and strategic thinking Choose a lawyer who understands your case Learn how e-mails and social networking can be used against you

Splitting Deformations of Degenerations of Complex Curves

Splitting Deformations of Degenerations of Complex Curves Book
Author : Shigeru Takamura
Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media

Language : En, Es, Fr & De

Book Description :

The author develops a deformation theory for degenerations of complex curves; specifically, he treats deformations which induce splittings of the singular fiber of a degeneration. He constructs a deformation of the degeneration in such a way that a subdivisor is "barked" (peeled) off from the singular fiber. These "barking deformations" are related to deformations of surface singularities (in particular, cyclic quotient singularities) as well as the mapping class groups of Riemann surfaces (complex curves) via monodromies. Important applications, such as the classification of atomic degenerations, are also explained.

Book Description :

From the characterological struggle that leads to the breakup through the difficult adjustments that come after the marriage is over, this volume examines the emotional process of divorce. Illustrated throughout with evocative case examples, this book explores why marriages fail, the feelings and reactions of both the rejecting and the rejected partners, the psychodynamics of jealousy, the possibility of reconciliation, and the impact of divorce on children.
