By their nature, artists look at a life of faith differently, and that unique journey warrants an exploration of what it means to be a Christ-follower and an artist. The book intentionally veers away from tips and techniques and formulas, while concentrating on the journey, the mystery, and the heart.

Do you know what makes a story great? All the best stories have a few things in common. First, we need the voice of a narrator or a storyteller. Then, add interesting characters, throw them into a risky setting, and get ready for a good dose of conflict. Give those characters a purpose or goal, and that's then the real action begins. Story is our calling. It is also the next generation’s best chance of identifying with the Church and changing the world. As we become storytellers, we learn to see the world in terms of stories being lived and told. We discover deeper insights into God, ourselves, and others. God’s story is happening. We are right in the middle of a page-turner—and God is in it with us. Start seeing your life as a part of God’s story and make some great adventures happen right now!

Good Taste Bad Taste Christian Taste

Book Description :

Christians frequently come into conflict with themselves and others over such matters as music, popular culture, and worship style. Yet they usually lack any theology of art or taste adequate to deal with aesthetic disputes. In this provocative book, Frank Burch Brown offers a constructive, ecumenical approach to artistic taste and aesthetic judgment--a non-elitist but discriminating theological aesthetics that has teeth but no fangs. While grounded in history and theory, this book takes up such practical questions as: How can one religious community accommodate a variety of artistic tastes? What good or harm can be done by importing music that is worldly in origin into a house of worship? How can the exercise of taste in the making of art be a viable (and sometimes advanced) spiritual discipline? In exploring the complex relation between taste, religious imagination, and faith, Brown offers a new perspective on what it means to be spiritual, religious, and indeed Christian.

Book Description :

This book is my life story, as a Coptic Christian, raised in Egypt. Where no one from my family has ever moved away for thousands of years through the rise and falls of ancient pharaohs and deep roots of ancient Christianity. It is also the story of my parents raising 10 children since 1953 in an environment of extreme poverty where resources and opportunities were limited with unrelenting prejudice towards Christian minorities. So, I came to the United States, the land of opportunity, and became a prominent American neurosurgeon among the only 4000 active nationwide and the only one nationally and internationally to achieve five board certifications in five acknowledged medical disciplines. I continue to practice and serve the mission set before me. My home land was once prosperous and rich in history. Over the centuries, it joined the downfall of the majority of the developing countries of the world through its economic crises and injustices to many. It was the land for the fathers of early Christians and the foundation for worldwide Christians. Now the Coptic Christians are considered a minority constituting a mere 10% of the population and are joining the exodus of ancient Christians from their native African continent. This book chronicles my journey from the land of history, the land of my birth, to the land of opportunity, America. It outlines the socioeconomic and political changes that Egypt has seen over the last century. It is my hope that others may find inspiration and understanding of my culture through reading this book. I owe it all to Christ, the Lord, my cherished parents, my family and friends, my teachers, my mentors, and especially my beloved patients.

Book Description :

From trusted author Don Cousins comes Unexplainable, a dynamic book designed to help people find true fulfillment by shifting their life view from outside-in to inside-out. Most of us live our lives from the “outside-in.” This means we try to order our external circumstances (family, finances, career, friends, leisure, etc.) in such a way that we feel happy, secure, and content within. But this approach simply doesn’t work. Few of us are ever able to get our life circumstances just as we want, and even when we feel we do, it doesn’t last. More importantly, the Bible makes it clear that God intended life to be experienced “inside-out.” Unexplainable will inspire you to pursue a life for which there’s no logical explanation apart from God.

The Culturally Savvy Christian

The Culturally Savvy Christian Book
Author : Dick Staub
Publisher : John Wiley & Sons
Release : 2008-09-09
ISBN : 0470344032
Language : En, Es, Fr & De

GET BOOK

Book Description :

In The Culturally Savvy Christian—his incisive critique of contemporary culture and religion—Dick Staub concludes that though it is influential, American popular culture is generally superficial (diversionary, mindless, and celebrity–driven) spiritually delusional (moralistic, therapeutic, and deistic) and soulless (sustained not by art, craft, and ideas, but by the mad pursuit of profit—propped up by marketing and technology). Similarly American Christianity has devolved into its own mindless, diversionary, and celebrity–driven superficiality. Because humans are created in God′s image with spiritual, intellectual, creative, moral, and relational capacities, we long for more, yet the true seeker faces the lose–lose alternatives of a soul–numbing culture and a vacuous Christianity–lite. The renaissance we need in both faith and culture will originate in a deep spiritual renewal that restores God′s image in us and creates a new breed of culturally savvy, thoughtful creatives who rekindle the spiritual, intellectual, and creative legacy of Christians as enrichers of culture.

Book Description :

FRAMEWORKS is a series dedicated to interdisciplinary studies on the integration of faith and learning. Given Jesus' command to "love God with heart, soul, mind, and strength," the time is ripe for confessional scholarship and education across the disciplines. We implore God's Spirit to change us through the great works of history and literature alongside developments in science, psychology, and economics--and all of this--through intense engagement with the Scriptures. We want to celebrate God's work across the disciplines. We seek the likes of psychologists in conversation with philosophers, ethicists with historians, biblical scholars with rhetoricians, scientists with economists, environmentalists with neurologists. As these conversations continue across the disciplines, the "framework" from which to draw our individual and collective testimonies will only enlarge. We invite you to think, behave, preach, sing, pray, research and indeed to live this multi-faceted journey with us. If indeed our stories are never complete, we invite future contributors and readers to join us in pursuit of deeper personal and collective transformation.

Book Description :

God is passionately pursuing you. There is a notion in our world that we must find God, that it is on our shoulders to search for a hidden God. If God had not or does not reveal himself, we would not even know that there is a God. He is self-revealing and on a mission to provoke a response in us. He pursues us in three fundamental ways. First, the act of creation itself is an incredible act of pursuit by God. He is the Creator-Artist, with his masterpiece in mind, and we are part of the tapestry of creation. Second, the act of inspiring a book, the Bible, to codify his message demonstrates God as divine author pursuing us through his written Word. Finally, the act of the incarnation is the crowning act of pursuit. Christ, the incarnate Son of God, is on a mission to rescue the love of his heart. It is the perfect fixing the broken, the highest becoming the lowest, the resurrected lifting the dying from the very grave. Gods pursuit of us takes place on his dance floor, his universe, his masterpiece. His pursuit unfolds throughout history on our battlefields, in our crucibles, and through our worst trials. He brings the scars of his cruciblethe crossinto our crucibles and rescues us. In responding to our pursuing God we find our greatest healing.
