Book Description :

Prealgebra prepares students for the rigors of algebra, and also teaches students problem-solving techniques to prepare them for prestigious middle school math contests such as MATHCOUNTS, MOEMS, and the AMC 8.Topics covered in the book include the properties of arithmetic, exponents, primes and divisors, fractions, equations and inequalities, decimals, ratios and proportions, unit conversions and rates, percents, square roots, basic geometry (angles, perimeter, area, triangles, and quadrilaterals), statistics, counting and probability, and more! The text is structured to inspire the reader to explore and develop new ideas. Each section starts with problems, giving the student a chance to solve them without help before proceeding. The text then includes solutions to these problems, through which algebraic techniques are taught. Important facts and powerful problem solving approaches are highlighted throughout the text. In addition to the instructional material, the book contains well over 1000 problems. The solutions manual contains full solutions to all of the problems, not just answers.

Book Description :

Offering a uniquely modern, balanced approach, Tussy/Koenig's PREALGEBRA, Fifth Edition, integrates the best of traditional drill and practice with the best elements of the reform movement. To many developmental math students, algebra is like a foreign language. They have difficulty translating the words, their meanings, and how they apply to problem solving. Emphasizing the language of algebra, the text's fully integrated learning process is designed to expand students' reasoning abilities and teach them how to read, write, and think mathematically. It blends instructional approaches that include vocabulary, practice, and well-defined pedagogy with an emphasis on reasoning, modeling, communication, and technology skills. Access codes Access codes that are purchased from sellers other than Pearson carry a higher risk of being either the wrong ISBN or a previously redeemed code. Check with the seller prior to purchase. -- The Rockswold/Krieger algebra series fosters conceptual understanding by using relevant applications and visualization to show students why math matters. It answers the common question "When will I ever use this?" Rockswold teaches students the math in context, rather than including the applications at the end of the presentation. By seamlessly integrating meaningful applications that include real data and supporting visuals (graphs, tables, charts, colors, and diagrams), students are able to see how math impacts their lives as they learn the concepts. The authors believe this approach deepens conceptual understanding and better prepares students for future math courses and life.

Prepare students for high school math by playing with positive and negative integers, number properties, mixed operations, algebraic functions, coordinate geometry, and more. Prealgebra & Geometry features 41 kid-tested games, offering a variety of challenges for students in 4–9th grades and beyond. A true understanding of mathematics requires more than the ability to memorize procedures. This book helps your children learn to think mathematically, giving them a strong foundation for future learning. Chapters include: * Number Properties: Master factors, multiples, prime numbers, and logical deduction. * Integers: Explore the workings of positive and negative numbers. * Operations and Functions: Stretch your mental muscles with games that require algebraic thinking. * Geometry: Play around with area, perimeter, coordinate graphing, and more. Math games pump up mental muscle, reduce the fear of failure, and generate a positive attitude toward mathematics. Through playful interaction, games strengthen a child’s intuitive understanding of numbers and build problem-solving strategies. Mastering a math game can be hard work, but kids do it willingly because it is fun. So what are you waiting for? Clear off a table, grab a deck of cards, and let’s play some math!

Book Description :

As in previous editions, the focus in PREALGEBRA & INTRODUCTORY ALGEBRA remains on the Aufmann Interactive Method (AIM). Students are encouraged to be active participants in the classroom and in their own studies as they work through the How To examples and the paired Examples and You Try It problems. Student engagement is crucial to success. Presenting students with worked examples, and then providing them with the opportunity to immediately solve similar problems, helps them build their confidence and eventually master the concepts. Simplicity is key in the organization of this edition, as in all other editions. All lessons, exercise sets, tests, and supplements are organized around a carefully constructed hierarchy of objectives. Each exercise mirrors a preceding objective, which helps to reinforce key concepts and promote skill building. This clear, objective-based approach allows students to organize their thoughts around the content, and supports instructors as they work to design syllabi, lesson plans, and other administrative documents. New features like Focus on Success, Apply the Concept, and Concept Check add an increased emphasis on study skills and conceptual understanding to strengthen the foundation of student success. The Third Edition also features a new design, enhancing the Aufmann Interactive Method and making the pages easier for both students and instructors to follow. Available with InfoTrac Student Collections http://gocengage.com/infotrac. Book Description :

Prealgebra, by Baratto, Bergman, and Hutchison is part of the latest offerings in the successful Hutchison Series in Mathematics. The book is designed for a one-semester course in basic math and is appropriate for lecture, learning center, laboratory, and self-paced settings. The ninth edition continues the series’ hallmark approach of encouraging mastery of mathematics through careful practice. The text provides detailed, straightforward explanations and accessible pedagogy to help students grow their math skills from the ground up. The authors use a three-pronged approach of communication, pattern recognition, and problem solving to present concepts understandably, stimulate critical-thinking skills, and stress reading and communication skills in order to help students become effective problem-solvers. Features such as Tips for Student Success, Check Yourself exercises, and Activities underscore this approach and the underlying philosophy of mastering math through practice. Exercise sets have been significantly expanded and are now better-organized, and applications are now more thoroughly integrated throughout the text. The text is fully-integrated with McGraw-Hill’s online learning system, Connect Math Hosted by ALEKS Corp, and is available with ALEKS 360.

Book Description :

A Unified Text That Serves Your Needs. Most colleges offering elementary and intermediate algebra use two different texts, one for each course. As a result, students may be required to purchase two texts; this can result in a considerable amount of topic overlap. Over the last few years, several publishers have issued "combined" texts that take chapters from two texts and merge them into a single book. This has allowed students to purchase a single text, but it has done little to reduce the overlap. The goal of this author team has been to produce a text that was more than a combined text. They wanted to unify the topics and themes of beginning and intermediate algebra in a fluid, non-repetitive text. We also wanted to produce a text that will prepare students from different mathematical backgrounds for college algebra. We believe we have accomplished our goals. For students entering directly from an arithmetic or pre-algebra course, this is a text that contains all of the material needed to prepare for college algebra. It can be offered in two quarters or in two semesters. The new Review Chapter found between chapters 6 and 7 serves as a mid-book review for students preparing to take a final exam that covers the first seven chapters. Finally, we have produced a text that will accommodate those students placing into the second term of a two-term sequence. Here is where the Review Chapter is most valuable. It gives the students an opportunity to check that they have all of the background required to begin in Chapter 7. If the students struggle with any of the material in the Review Chapter, they are referred to the appropriate section for further review.

Prealgebra follows a nontraditional approach in its presentation of content. The beginning, in particular, is presented as a sequence of small steps so that students gain confidence in their ability to succeed in the course. The order of topics was carefully planned to emphasize the logical progression throughout the course and to facilitate a thorough understanding of each concept. As new ideas are presented, they are explicitly related to previous topics. Chapter 1: Whole Numbers Chapter 2: The Language of Algebra Chapter 3: Integers Chapter 4: Fractions Chapter 5: Decimals Chapter 6: Percents Chapter 7: The Properties of Real Numbers Chapter 8: Solving Linear Equations Chapter 9: Math Models and Geometry Chapter 10: Polynomials Chapter 11: Graphs
