Personnel Protection: Advance Procedures discusses the concept of the security advance, which is any activity, planning, or security arrangement made in advance of an executive visit. This 34-minute video presentation of narrated slides explains how security practitioners can mitigate risk to the executive by identifying potential risks before a visit, and includes guidelines for each area of the location that needs to be surveyed and closely monitored. This presentation is one of 11 modules in the Personnel Protection presentation series, which is designed for companies considering an executive security program or for companies with an executive security program already in place. Each presentation in the series is narrated by Jerome Miller, formerly a commander in the Detroit Police Department and senior manager of international and special security operations at Chrysler Corporation, and Radford Jones, formerly the manager of global security and fire protection at Ford Motor Company after 20 years with the U.S. Secret Service. Other topics in this series include the concepts of executive security; the executive threat assessment profile; the selection of executive security personnel; kidnapping issues and guidelines; security procedures for residence, worksite, aircraft, and vehicle operations; and executive compensation issues, including IRS requirements. Personnel Protection: Advance Procedures is a part of Elsevier's Security Executive Council Risk Management Portfolio, a collection of real world solutions and "how-to" guidelines that equip executives, practitioners, and educators with proven information for successful security and risk management programs. The 34-minute, visual PowerPoint presentation with audio narration format is excellent for group learning Describes the importance of security advance procedures for mitigating risk to executives while at an off-site location Includes considerations for each area to be reviewed in advance, including entrances, exits, emergency exit routes, vehicle arrival points, surrounding buildings, and more

Book Description :

The recent emergence of many new states and the creation of a large number of international institutions have resulted in considerable growth in the number of persons having diplomatic status. However, an unfortunate side-effect of this growth has been a corresponding increase in the number of attacks on diplomatic personnel, as symbolic figures diplomats are targets for all types of political violence. This book provides an in-depth examination of the legal and non-legal regimes directed towards the protection of diplomatic personnel around the world. It examines the theoretical and practical justifications for the granting of special protection to such personnel and also particular recent developments in international law relating to the prevention of terrorism and the development of international criminal law, including the International Criminal Court.

Book Description :

The 1994 Convention on the Safety of United Nations and Associated Personnel (Safety Convention) was the first multilateral convention to deal specifically with the protection of personnel engaged in peace operations. It should be viewed against the background of the increasingly volatile environments in which peace operation personnel were required to operate at the beginning of the 1990s. An Optional Protocol, extending the automatic application of the Safety Convention to new categories of operation, was adopted in December 2005. Protection, which a host government is responsible for securing for personnel in peace operations, may be categorised as general and special protection. The former includes, for example, human rights law and international humanitarian law. The latter comprises privileges and immunities accorded to agents of states or organisations. The contribution of the Safety Convention is mainly one of interstate penal law co-operation. States parties are obligated to co-operate in order to effectively prosecute the perpetrators of stipulated crimes. The protection afforded by the Safety Convention may therefore be categorised as being part of an emerging legal regime against impunity. An effective protection needs to address the specific challenges surrounding peace operations. Some of these challenges, identified in this study, are related to the interplay between the rules of peace and war as well as responsibility and accountability of protected personnel. It is also contended that there is a need for an effective implementation of existing rules, and a careful development of so-called status-of-forces agreements applicable in peace operations.

Book Description :

Oil and gas companies are repeatedly cited by regulatory organizations for poor training and maintenance on providing personal protective equipment to their refinery workers. Managers of refinery and petrochemical plants are responsible for instructing their workers with the types of equipment available, how to properly wear the equipment, how to properly care and maintain the equipment, and, most importantly, it’s their responsibility to enforce these regulations and safety requirements. While there are many reference materials on the subject, most are too broad to apply directly to the unique and highly volatile atmosphere of an oil and gas operation. Personnel Protection and Safety Equipment for the Oil and Gas Industries answers the call for safety managers onsite as well as workers to understand all the safety equipment available specifically for the energy sector. Condensed into one convenient reference location, this training guide is designed to inform on several types of personnel protective clothing, firefighting protective clothing, respiratory protective devises available as well as many other types of protective equipment, including fall protection and vehicle safety belts and harnesses. Industry-specific examples, multiple illustrations, and a glossary of terms make Personnel Protection and Safety Equipment for the Oil and Gas Industries a must-have on every oil and gas operation. Know recommended US and international protective safety equipment regulations Learn the types, classes, and materials of safety and protective equipment specific to the oil and gas industry Gain knowledge on how to select, test, maintain, and store protective equipment properly
