Book Description :

This book focuses on how to formulate a mental health response with respect to the unique elements of pandemic outbreaks. Unlike other disaster psychiatry books that isolate aspects of an emergency, this book unifies the clinical aspects of disaster and psychosomatic psychiatry with infectious disease responses at the various levels, making it an excellent resource for tackling each stage of a crisis quickly and thoroughly. The book begins by contextualizing the issues with a historical and infectious disease overview of pandemics ranging from the Spanish flu of 1918, the HIV epidemic, Ebola, Zika, and many other outbreaks. The text acknowledges the new infectious disease challenges presented by climate changes and considers how to implement systems to prepare for these issues from an infection and social psyche perspective. The text then delves into the mental health aspects of these crises, including community and cultural responses, emotional epidemiology, and mental health concerns in the aftermath of a disaster. Finally, the text considers medical responses to situation-specific trauma, including quarantine and isolation-associated trauma, the mental health aspects of immunization and vaccination, survivor mental health, and support for healthcare personnel, thereby providing guidance for some of the most alarming trends facing the medical community. Written by experts in the field, Psychiatry of Pandemics is an excellent resource for infectious disease specialists, psychiatrists, psychologists, immunologists, hospitalists, public health officials, nurses, and medical professionals who may work patients in an infectious disease outbreak.

Quarantining yourself at home can play an important role in preventing the spread of infectious diseases. But this doesn't mean that coping with the disruption in your normal routine is easy. Book Description :

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on mental health. The challenges posed by the pandemic and approaches to addressing the growing burden of mental illness was the focus of a high-level online event held on 10 May - Mental health and the pandemic: living, caring, acting! This document is a companion to the report highlighting the key topics discussed during the event. It features six examples of initiatives devised and implemented in the past year to support the mental health needs of vulnerable groups. Each initiative can be seen as a 'promising approach' to serve as a practical example to provide information and inspiration on what can be done. The initiatives were presented during parallel sessions of the event to inspire discussion and action among participants. The order of the promising approaches below follows the order of presentation at the online event in lines with the themes of the parallel sessions: living - caring - responding.

Book Description :

The Coronavirus (CV) Pandemic has affected all of us, in some way or another. Some of us have been diagnosed with Covid-19 and have survived. Some still have lingering symptoms. You might be what is currently called a Covid "Long-Hauler". Some have not survived. All of us, however, have been impacted psychologically and emotionally, even if we never were affected physically. If not dealt with, the Stress we now feel these days might develop into lingering Covid Mental Health Issues and/or Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). At the time of this writing, we are almost a year into this Pandemic. We are receiving conflicting information on the Pandemic, Politics, the Economy, and many other aspects of our daily living. All this is overwhelming, at least for me. Maybe for you too. Time will tell how this pandemic will linger on in our lives physically, mentally, and maybe even spiritually as the days, weeks, months, and years go on. This book might at least give you some ideas and/or resources for now and in the future, if needed. This book is probably not for those who are thriving in the current situations we are all in at this time. This book is more for those who are slogging through each day, just like me - learning to live "Just for Today".

Book Description :

"Corona Generation. Growing Up in a Pandemic" aims to estimate the global costs generated by COVID-19 in 2020 among young people and forecast long-term expenses. Data modeling of Corona Generation’s past and future situations cover three dimensions: education, mental health and the labour market. Short-term losses (i.e. 2020), the pandemic’s total impact was USD 1.7 trillion, including a USD 407 billion increase in mental health costs and 1.3 trillion in lost earnings caused by the rise in youth unemployment. In the long term, the global cost of COVID-19 will reach USD 44 trillion. One dimension refers to education, where the deterioration of schooling as a result of school closures will lower future earnings – by USD 21 trillion globally during a 45-year career. Another long-term dimension taken into account is the labour market, with total output considered based on two indicators: the increase in permanent unemployment due to the crisis, which will lead to USD 15.5 trillion in lost earnings, and the decrease in young employees’ earnings, which will amount to USD 5.7 trillion over 15 years. Detailed estimations for each country included in an appendix.
