Book Description :

Violet Marcus’s life is settled. She has it all: a place of her own, a business where her temper has its uses, and great people who work for her. But something is missing. The problem is, her stubbornness refuses to admit how lonely she actually is. She lost the one man she thought she could marry, a university love, but when their careers drive them in different directions they went their separate ways. Now he’s back. He’s also changed. Unsure if she wants to hug him or throat punch him, she keeps her distance. Or tries to. Travis Stewart moves to Ballarat for one reason—to have Violet back in his life. His love has never diminished. Not through the years, the distance, or even in the underworld he finds himself a part of. He will always love her. Now he just has to convince Violet that his heart is hers, and his soul isn’t as black as it seems. His mission is simple: get Violet to understand they have a future together before getting kneed in the balls. Easy, especially as he refuses to be outplayed.

Book Description :

Sponsored by the Army Capabilities Integration Center and in collaboration with the Joint Staff's Deputy Directorate for Global Operations (Strategic Multi-Layer Assessment Branch), this report examines the emergence of gray zone competition and conflict as important pacers for U.S. defense strategy. The authors argue that gray zone challenges are unique defense-relevant issues sharing three common characteristics-hybridity, menace to defense and military convention, and profound and paralyzing risk-confusion. This report and its authors offer an important opening venture into a vexing strategic question for senior defense and military leadership on the subject of gray zone threats. Namely, how can the American defense enterprise adjust to an era of relentless revisionist and rejectionist opposition to U.S. power? On the one hand, purposeful U.S. competitors pursue meaningful revision of the U.S.-led status quo through campaign-quality combinations of influence, intimidation, coercion, and aggression.

Book Description :

Essay from the year 2020 in the subject Business economics - Company formation, Business Plans, , language: English, abstract: This paper analyses and presents how the rest of the world now influences the United States as its entrepreneurial activity rises and decreases. The result of the analysis shows that the United States are still dominated by emerging countries in entrepreneurial activities. This is a result of weak cultural support, software industry, and high-growth markets. However, in start-up skills, competitiveness, and emerging technology the United States remain strong. Taxes in the United States decreased in 2018 compared to 2017. This may be the consequence of the reduction of the number of new business and entrepreneurial activity. Zoltan and Laszlo indicated that even though the United States seem to be among the top entrepreneurial economies, its performance is based on the sub-index of expectations but remains slightly on the sub-indexes of attitudes and operation. On institutional variables the US-output tends to be better than on individual variables. A country cannot be strong without a strong economy especially in the private sector. All countries are living by its population via the payment of taxes (tax on company income, tax on salaries and wages, value added tax, tax on dividend). The government redistributes this under different payments (paying its employees, supporting the poor via subsidiaries, payment for health insurance, payment for military expenses, investing in public assets). It is clear that taxes are the main source of revenue for the government. When people are rich, they make their government rich through their contribution. There may be a positive correlation between the amount collected by the government and the number of employed people and the number of companies.

Book Description :

This book outlines the various ways the award-winning American reality competition show, Survivor, has been able to outwit, outplay, and outlast for twenty-seven seasons. This competition tests the physical, mental, emotional, and social limits of anyone who is willing to be "stranded" on a deserted island in order to have the chance to win $1,000,000. As contestants try to adapt to their new island lifestyle, producers try to adapt new ways to keep the audience engaged from season to season. This book gives readers a detailed history of how the show came to be as well as predictions for the future of Survivor. It also analyzes the successes and hardships the show has seen over its twenty-seven years on air. While the game challenges, contestants, and ratings are constantly changing from season to season, the premise of this social experimental reality television show has always remained the same: to "outwit, outplay, and outlast" the competition.

Book Description :

Socially responsible investing (SRI) is investing that is mindful of the impact on society of that investment. It is often described to investors as allowing them "to do well by doing good." SRI usually describes investments that screen out companies that violate environmental or other laws, use child labor or sweatshops, discriminate in hiring, or-in general-produce products detrimental to society or engage in practices deemed reprehensible by most people. Although many people want to invest in socially responsible ways, until recently most investors believed that they had to give up some measure of performance to do so. The SRI Advantage demonstrates why this is emphatically not the case. It presents overwhelming evidence that SRI has outperformed financially, explains in detail why SRI outperforms, and then examines the im-plications for investment professionals, investors, pension funds, and community/nonprofit groups. Authored by Peter Camejo-the chair of an SRI investment fund-in collaboration with more than a dozen other SRI professionals, "The SRI Advantage "includes chapters on: Pension funds and fiduciary responsibility The energy industry and SRI SRI mutual fund performance The international dimension of SRI Community investing strategies Foundations and mission-related investing Prefaced by consumer advocate Ralph Nader, and introduced by Republican corporate accountability advocate Robert A. Monks, "The SRI Advantage "will be of special interest to investment advisors and financial planners, private investors, the nonprofit sector, brokers, mutual fund managers, and-especially given the Enron scandal-pension fund trustees and staff. Peter Camejo has 17 years of experience as an investment adviser, specializing in socially responsible investing. He founded the California-focused Council for Responsible Public Investment, created the Eco-Logical Trust for Merrill Lynch-the first environmentally screened fund for a major firm, and a top performer-and is chair of an asset management company.
