Book Description :

Industry and government are increasingly reliant on an intelligent – or ‘smart’ – and interconnected computer infrastructure, but the reality is that it is extremely difficult to provide full cyber defense and/or intrusion prevention for the smart networks that connect intelligent industrial and logistics modules, since the more intelligent the systems are, the more vulnerable they become. This book presents papers from the NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) on Cyber Defence in Industry 4.0 Systems and Related Logistics and IT Infrastructures, held in Jyvaskyla, Finland, in October 2017. The main focus of the 11 papers included here is the creation and implementation of cyber systems and cyber platforms capable of providing enhanced cyber security and interoperability for smart IT infrastructure. Topics covered include: smart intrusion prevention; adaptive cyber defense; smart recovery of systems; and the smart monitoring, control and management of Industry 4.0 complexes and related logistics systems such as robotic equipment, logistics modules, units and technologic equipment, as well as their IT infrastructure.

Book Description :

This book deals with complex problems in the fields of logistics and supply chain management and discusses advanced methods, especially from the field of computational intelligence (CI), for solving them. The first two chapters provide general introductions to logistics and supply chain management on the one hand, and to computational intelligence on the other hand. The subsequent chapters cover specific fields in logistics and supply chain management, work out the most relevant problems found in those fields, and discuss approaches for solving them. Chapter 3 discusses problems in the field of production and inventory management. Chapter 4 considers planning activities on a finer level of granularity which is usually denoted as scheduling. In chapter 5 problems in transportation planning such as different types of vehicle routing problems are considered. While chapters 3 to 5 rather discuss planning problems which appear on an operative level, chapter 6 discusses the strategic problem of designing a supply chain or network. The final chapter provides an overview of academic and commercial software and information systems for the discussed applications. There appears to be a gap between general textbooks on logistics and supply chain management and more specialized literature dealing with methods for computational intelligence, operations research, etc., for solving the complex operational problems in these fields. For readers, it is often difficult to proceed from introductory texts on logistics and supply chain management to the sophisticated literature which deals with the usage of advanced methods. This book fills this gap by providing state-of-the-art descriptions of the corresponding problems and suitable methods for solving them.

Thecontentofthisbookismotivatedbytherecentchangesinglobalmarketsandthe availability of new transportation services. Indeed, the complexity of current supply chains suggests todecision makers in logisticsto work witha set ofef?cient (Pare- optimal) solutions, mainly to capture different economical aspects that, in general, one optimal solution related to a single objective function is not able to capture - tirely. Motivated by these reasons, we study freight transportation systems with a speci?c focus on multi-objective modelling. The goal is to provide decision m- ers with new methods and tools to implement multi-objective optimization models in logistics. The book combines theoretical aspects with applications, showing the advantages and the drawbacks of adopting scalarization techniques, and when it is worthwhile to reduce the problem to a goal-programming one. Also, we show - plications where more than one decision maker evaluates the effectiveness of the logistic system and thus a multi-level programming is sought to attain meaningful solutions. After presenting the general working framework, we analyze logistic - sues in a maritime terminal. Next, we study multi-objective route planning, relying on the application of hazardous material transportation. Then, we examine freight distribution on a smaller scale, as for the case of goods distribution in metropolitan areas. Finally, we present a human-workforce problem arising in logistic platforms. The general approach followed in the text is that of presenting mathematics, al- rithms and the related experimentations for each problem.

Book Description :

Research into industrial production is a varied and far-reaching activity and cannot be said to be the province of any one particular science. Industrial production research is a subject which cannot be covered in any one or even several branches of study, expertise in other fields of science is also needed for this research. The guiding principle on which industrial production is based is to manufacture marketable, quality products, using the factors of production as economically as possible. Only in this way can profitability be assured and future production be guaranteed. Industrial centres have sprung up throughout the world in which the latest technological achievements have been applied with great success. The 322 papers in this volume review current issues of production in an increasingly demanding working environment. Current problems are analysed which can only be solved through worldwide production research which will also further industrial development. The effects of both industrial production and the production of energy on the natural environment are examined in detail. The articles presented in this book emphasise the need for flexibility and concentration of forces in production research, in order to propose and implement approaches and solutions which can be adapted to continuously changing circumstances. It is hoped that the readers of this volume will consider production research as an ongoing and open project which requires multidisciplinary cooperation to cope with the many open questions on future industrial development throughout the world.

Book Description :

32-year industry veteran Issa Baluch examines transport logistics innovations in great projects of the past, analyzes the challenges of today's dynamic industry and shares his vision for its possibilities in the future. Transport Logistics first presents ten case studies of historical projects that demanded careful transport logistics management. It surveys a wide variety of projects, some of them successes and some of them failures. The second part of the book examines various aspects of today's dynamic freight logistics industry, including the changing role of the freight forwarder. With the development of IT-based supply chain integration and value-added service offerings, the freight forwarder is being forced to evolve, or else risk extinction. In addition, ensuring cargo security has become an irreversible part of the forwarder's responsibility to customers and other supply chain partners. Finally, an examination of the freight logistics industries of Egypt, China, South Africa, India, and Dubai, United Arab Emirates provides some perspective on the varied environments in which forwarders operate and illuminates the need for trade and transport facilitation as a means to economic growth. In the book's third and final section, Mr. Baluch looks at the future of the transport logistics industry, which will continue to evolve as a result of globalization, the digitalization of information, new technologies, rising energy costs, and changing trade patterns. He also presents railways as the eco-friendly freight solution of the future, especially in the Middle East and Africa. Transport Logistics concludes with an emphasis on the importance of training and the role of national and international associations in developing a culture of quality, security, and innovation in the freight logistics profession.
