Book Description :

This book provides readers with an in-depth discussion of circuit simulation, combining basic electrical engineering circuit theory with Python programming. It fills an information gap by describing the development of Python Power Electronics, an open-source software for simulating circuits, and demonstrating its use in a sample circuit. Unlike typical books on circuit theory that describe how circuits can be solved mathematically, followed by examples of simulating circuits using specific, commercial software, this book has a different approach and focus. The author begins by describing every aspect of the open-source software, in the context of non-linear power electronic circuits, as a foundation for aspiring or practicing engineers to embark on further development of open source software for different purposes. By demonstrating explicitly the operation of the software through algorithms, this book brings together the fields of electrical engineering and software technology.

Book Description :

Every electronics application from cell phones to calculators to computers requires power. Often the battery supplying this power is the largest single section of the product and the behavior of the energy follows a chaotic or nonlinear pattern. Great strides have been made in the last decade in the comprehension inherently nonlinear field of power electronics. Until now, no single text has exhibited the foundations of these nonlinear phenomena and their applications in a fashion suited to the power electronics engineer rather than the research specialist. Most modern practical engineering techniques are linear, which makes the nonlinear dynamics of these phenomena difficult to predict and analyze. This invaluable edition will provide the reader with the most recent advances, theoretical approaches, and tools required for the comprehension and analysis of major nonlinear phenomena in a well-defined scope.

Book Description :

The field of nonlinear fiber optics has grown substantially since the First Edition of Nonlinear Fiber Optics, published in 1989. Like the First Edition, this Second Edition is a comprehensive, tutorial, and up-to-date account of nonlinear optical phenomena in fiber optics. It synthesizes widely scattered research material and presents it in an accessible manner for students and researchers already engaged in or wishing to enter the field of nonlinear fiber optics. Particular attention is paid to the importance of nonlinear effects in the design of optical fiber communication systems. This is a completely new book containing either new sections or major revisions in every chapter. Major changes in Soliton-based Communication Systems New section on Photonic Switching New section on the Nonlinear Fiber-loop Mirror Section on Second-harmonic Generation will be expanded to include new research material Two new chapters have been added on Fiber Amplifiers and Fiber Lasers, two major research areas which have grown significantly during the last 4-5 years All references have been completely updated

Book Description :

The on-going developments, and the recent achievements of the superconducting electronics (especially in the field of Josephson junctions and the inherent nonlinear dynamics) inspired us to organize a conference where different groups working on the subject could meet and discuss the latest results of their investigations. This idea was realized as two joint workshops, the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Superconducting Electronics with Prof. N.F. Pedersen as chairman, and the 2nd Workshop on Josephson Devices, with Profs. G. Costabile and M. Russo as chairmen, held in Capri, Italy on September 3-7, 1990. The Workshops were very successful. About 70 scientists from 12 countries (Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, People's Republic of China, Sweden, United Kingdom, USA, USSR, and Venezuela) enjoyed the many interesting and mostly informal occasions for scientific exchanges as well as the very pleasant weather of Southern Italy. We are very grateful to the Institutions which made possible the realization and the success of the conference with their financial support : NATO Science Committee through the NATO International Scientific Exchange Programmes, University of Salerno, and Istituto di Cibernetica of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (C.N.R.) of Italy. The conference was held under the auspices of the Progetto Finalizzato "Superconductive and Cryogenic Technologies" of C.N.R. Finally special thanks go to our Conference Secretary Anna Maria Mazzarella for carrying out most of the organizative work, and for her continuous "on stage" support in solving all the problems which inevitably arise in such occasions.

Book Description :

This textbook, based on the authors’ class-tested material, is accessible to students at the advanced undergraduate and graduate level in physics and engineering. While its primary function is didactic, this book’s comprehensive choice of topics and its clear and authoritative synthesis of ideas make it a useful reference for researchers, device engineers, and course instructors who wish to consolidate their knowledge of this field. The book takes the semi-classical approach where light is treated as a wave in accordance with the classical Maxwell equations, while matter is governed by quantum theory. It begins by introducing the postulates and mathematical framework of quantum theory, followed by the formalism of the density matrix which allows the transition from microscopic (quantum) quantities to macroscopic (classical) ones. Consequently, the equations describing the reaction of matter to the electromagnetic field in the form of polarization, magnetization, and current are derived. These equations (together with the Maxwell equations) form the complete system of equations sufficient to model a wide class of problems surrounding linear and nonlinear interactions of electromagnetic fields with matter. The nonlinear character of the governing equations determines parameters of the steady-state mode of the quantum generator and is also demonstrated in harmonic generation via propagation of laser radiation in various media. The touchstone description of magnetic phenomena will be of interest to scientists who deal with applications of magneto-resonance phenomena in biology and medicine. Other advanced topics covered include electric dipole transitions, magnetic dipole transitions, plasma transitions, and the devices that can be based on these and other electro-optical and nonlinear-optical systems. This textbook features numerous exercises, some of which are investigatory and some of which require computational solutions.

Book Description :

Memristive Nonlinear Electronic Circuits deals with nonlinear systems in the design and implementation of circuits for generating complex dynamics. The brief proposes a new memristor model using an inverse tangent function, which achieves the characteristics of the memristor and can be implemented easily because it corresponds to the bipolar transistor differential pair. The authors design a new model-based memristive time-delay system by obtaining a time-delay memristive differential equation, which can generate an n-scroll chaotic attractor by adjusting the proposed nonlinear function. These designs are carried out using OrCAD-PSpice. The brief also presents a new time-delay memristive circuit excited by a nonautonomous staircase function which can generate grid chaotic attractors: new families of grids of n×m-scrolls. For increasingly complex dynamics of the circuits, the authors propose a new five-dimensional autonomous system with two memristors. The dynamical characteristics are investigated by phase portraits and bifurcation diagrams. The brief applies two synchronization methods to the memristive circuits: PC synchronization, and feedback control synchronization. The authors consider synchronization as the idea underlying idea the applications in nonlinear electronic circuits. Finally, the double-memristor system is employed to give rise to a highly secure dual-stage encryption technique.
