Book Description :

Highly Commended at the 2004 British Medical Awards Medical Book Competition! Neurology - made visible Every practitioner in modern medicine is confronted daily with neurologic symptoms, diagnoses, and clinical problems. Yet there is scarcely any other medical specialty that is so fraught with complexities and abstractions. This pocket atlas is designed to provide a better, easier-to-understand visual guide on what the reader needs to know about neurology. In a unique way, neurology is made visible in the truest sense of the word. Coverage includes: The basic principles of neuroanatomy and neurophysiology (structure of the CNS, peripheral nerves, stimulus transmission, nerve conduction velocity, etc.) Diagnostic methods and procedures (clinical examinations, electrophysiologic techniques, imaging studies, etc.). Neurologic disorders including their clinical manifestations, pathogenesis, and principles of treatment. These topics and more are covered in elaborately drawn, meticulously labeled illustrations. The effective concept of placing the illustrations opposite the descriptive text for a particular subject has created word-and-picture units that combine maximum teaching impact with an optimum density of information. Neurologic relationships can be grasped literally at a glance. This pocket atlas is intended for medical students, physicians, and other medical professionals (nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists) who could profit from a visual guide to neurology.

Book Description :

A practical, protocol-oriented guide to the practice of neurology in the hospital setting A Doody's Core Title for 2019! Hospital neurology is one of the fastest growing subspecialties within neurology. Running an efficient and effective neurohospitalist line is important to the financial success of hospitals and the physicians employed there. Many neurology patients also have internal medicine problems, and often it is a general hospitalist without neurology training who treat these patients. These physicians sorely need more information on neurology. Conversely, neurologists caring for these patients have only had one year of internal medicine training and require more guidance on medical problems. Given these realities, there is a need for a resource on hospital neurology. With The Hospital Neurology Book, Drs. Salardini and Biller have created a practical, concise, and useful work that guides both neurologists and internists in the areas in which their training is currently not sufficient for hospital practice. The Hospital Neurology Book features a highly readable format, providing information physicians can act upon, including recipes and protocols for patient care and question-based chapter headings that lead physicians to the exact issue they are dealing with in the moment. Each chapter (or chapter section as appropriate) opens with a case study, setting the stage in a highly practical manner, and ends with high yield summary points useful for consolidating learning.

Please note that this eBook does not include the DVD accompaniment. If you would like to have access to the DVD content, please purchase the print copy of this title. This is a clinical neurology book for students and non neurologists, and for those who teach them. The book covers neuroanatomy, history taking and examination and then proceeds to discuss the clinical features of common problems as well as selected, less common neurological disorders, in a way that will demystify a part of medicine that many find complex and difficult to understand. The book is accompanied by a DVD explaining concepts, demonstrating techniques of performing the neurological examination and demonstration of abnormal neurological signs. The first chapter is devoted to neuroanatomy from a clinical viewpoint. The concept of localising problems by likening the nervous system to a map grid with vertical meridians of longitude (the ascending sensory pathways and the descending motor pathway)and horizontal parallels of latitude (cortical signs, brainstem cranial nerves, nerve roots and peripheral nerves) of the nervous system is developed. Subsequent chapters take the reader through the neurological examination and the common neurological presentations from a symptom oriented approach. Chapter 4 contains a very simple method of understanding the brainstem, the "rule of 4". Chapter 6 discusses the approach after the history and examination are completed. The final chapter is an overview of how to approach information gathering and keeping up-to-date using the complex information streams available. widely illustrated with case studies and illustrations key points clinical questions clinical orientation with comprehensive references

Book Description :

The book provides an up-to-date account of the neuropsychological, cognitive-neurological, and neuropsychiatric aspects of movement disorders. The past ten years have seen an explosion of research covering non-motor aspects of Parkinson's disease and, more recently, movement disorders such as essential tremor, dystonia, corticobasal syndrome, progressive supranuclear palsy, and multiple system atrophy. It is often these neurobehavioral features that become troubling to the patient: they are sometimes difficult to recognize and treat, are associated with diminished patient and caregiver quality of life, and may hasten disease progression, loss of independence, and institutionalization. This book discusses the most recent diagnostic and treatment guidelines for such cognitive and psychiatric conditions in Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders, while providing practical tips and strategies for general assessment. The rapid accumulation of research in this field makes it increasingly difficult for one or two people to author a comprehensive text in an expert manner. The world-class team assembled for this volume succeeds in covering widely diverse areas such as the pathology, neuroimaging, assessment, and treatment of an ever-growing set of neurobehavioral features of movement disorders -- cognitive impairment and dementia, depression, apathy, anxiety, psychosis, and impulse control disorders. The text also surveys fundamental knowledge about basal ganglia function and dysfunction, assessment and evaluation techniques applicable to a range of movement disorders, and quality of life issues more broadly.
