Learn how Amazon.com, Apple Computer, Glaceau Vitamin Water, Proactiv Solution, Netflix and others used Moneyball Marketing tactics to out-market competitors with ad budgets several times their size. Like the "Moneyball" movie, Moneyball Marketing is all about redefining your metrics - to find higher-impact, under-valued approaches. Instead of measuring GRPs, reach and frequency, successful marketers today need to focus on conversion rates, retention rates and revenue per customer. Moneyball Marketing combines these new metrics with low-cost, iterative testing of alternative marketing tactics. It utilizes techniques from the best approaches in Online Marketing, Direct Response, and MMA/MMM models. Changes in consumer behavior have reduced the impact of many traditional marketing tools like TV, print and radio. To maximize marketing ROI, companies must dramatically reinvent their marketing programs.

Book Description :

The 1936 Yankees, the 1963 Dodgers, the 1975 Reds, the 2010 Giants—why do some baseball teams win while others don’t? General managers and fans alike have pondered this most important of baseball questions. The Moneyball strategy is not the first example of how new ideas and innovative management have transformed the way teams are assembled. In Pursuit of Pennants examines and analyzes a number of compelling, winning baseball teams over the past hundred-plus years, focusing on their decision making and how they assembled their championship teams. Whether through scouting, integration, instruction, expansion, free agency, or modernizing their management structure, each winning team and each era had its own version of Moneyball, where front office decisions often made the difference. Mark L. Armour and Daniel R. Levitt show how these teams succeeded and how they relied on talent both on the field and in the front office. While there is no recipe for guaranteed success in a competitive, ever-changing environment, these teams demonstrate how creatively thinking about one’s circumstances can often lead to a competitive advantage. Book Description :

The St. Louis Cardinals have experienced the kind of success that is rare in baseball. Regarded by many as the premier organization in Major League Baseball, they not only win, but do so with an apparently bottomless pool of talent, one that is mostly homegrown. Despite years of phenomenal achievements, including going to the World Series in 2004 and again in 2006, the Cardinals reinvented themselves using the "Cardinal Way," a term that has come to represent many things to fans, media, and other organizations, from an ironclad code of conduct to the team's cutting-edge use of statistic and analytics, and a farm system that has transformed baseball. Baseball journalist Howard Megdal takes fans behind the scenes and off the field, interviewing dozens of key players within the Cardinals organization, including owner Bill DeWitt and the general manager John Mozeliak. Megdal reveals how the players are assessed and groomed using an unrivaled player development system that has created a franchise that is the envy of the baseball world. In the spirit of Moneyball, The Cardinals Way tells an in-depth, fascinating story about a consistently good franchise, the business of sports in the twenty-first century and a team that has learned how to level the playing field, turning in season after successful season.

Book Description :

Sabermetrics, the search for objective knowledge about baseball through statistical analysis, has taken over the national pastime. The authors argue that this approach began as a useful corrective but has come to harm baseball. The book demonstrates that the so-called moneyball approach, based on sabermetrics, offers only limited guidance for assembling a team, managing games, and evaluating player performance. Equally important, the obsession with statistics and vision of the game as wholly predictable obscure baseball’s spectacular improvisational quality. It is the game’s unquantifiable and relentless capacity to surprise—the source of wonder so central to its greatest stories and personalities—that informs any real appreciation of baseball.

Moneyball for Education Using Data Evidence and Evaluation to Improve Federal Education Policy

Book Description :

More than a decade ago, Michael Lewis penned the influential book "Moneyball." An examination of how Oakland Athletics General Manager Billy Beane used data to make his franchise competitive with wealthier baseball teams, the book struck a chord. Beane's strategy of making decisions based on data had a powerful and positive impact on the performance of the Oakland A's, and people quickly saw that this practice could and should be more widely applied. This paper suggests ways to revamp federal education policies and programs to help lawmakers spend public funds more effectively and efficiently to improve student outcomes. The aim is to identify a set of proposals that have some bipartisan appeal and can make a practical difference. This effort was informed by thinking from a select group of seasoned experts from the left and right who have much experience with federal education policy. Given strong-principled disagreements about the nature of the federal role in education, three caveats are vital. First, this exercise assumes that the recommendations will be revenue neutral. Second, this exercise does not assume that the federal government should dictate to states or localities exactly how to spend their funds. Third, "moneyball" strategies are not imagined to suggest that we should only value what can currently be measured, or paint everything as either "working" or "not working." Even with these caveats, however, promoting more use of data, evidence, and evaluation to do better for students is too important to pass up. Moneyball could also present a bipartisan pathway forward at a time when much of education policy seems to be increasingly stuck in fruitless debate.

Book Description :

It's truly amazing how many of our best and brightest baseball minds in the media still misunderstand the concept of Money ball. To some, it's still rigidly defined as teams who value on-base percentage over everything else. To others, it simply means finding ways to win with little money. However, the true definition is much more complex. The true meaning is still largely unappreciated and misunderstood. . .In this book you'll find: . What Is Talent- Talent can be defined as a natural ability or aptitude. It is only recognized when you become exceptional at that talent. The truly successful are talented but it is hard work, tenacity and the pursuit of a better life that separates them from others that may be just as talented. The greatest danger for most of us is not that our goal is too high, and we miss it, but that it is too low, and we reach it. Once you settle that's where and who you are. The natural gifts given to us are meant to be developed. There is no other way to we show appreciation of those gifts. Every living being has talent no exception. Find out what your talent is and empower your life. The Curse of Talent- If you are a lucky talent, you will not end up in an environment in which your talent field is significant. You would be an attorney or a marketer or an accountant who can coincidently sing or play a musical instrument without experience, or perhaps an intuitive understanding of quantum electrodynamics. Ignorance and Fantasy- How does one grow from self-deception or wishful thinking to self-awareness and courage in the act of facing reality and turning it to good account? In exploring this question with me, perhaps you will find some answers that will help you climb a few rungs on the ladder to happiness. The Journey to Enlightenment- The word "enlightenment" is used very loosely today to apply to a lot of different spiritual practices and mental states." So, there are many ideas about enlightenment, and even more ideas about the illusions of enlightenment. What is Enlightenment like and how do we get there? What are the obstacles to Enlightenment and what stages do we go through? This book explores the state known as enlightenment and the pathways to reaching it. The Human Element of Asset Management- A professional level of management is key to all assets. Generally, people think of asset management as relating to investments. People are assets and should be professionally managed too. They are all in search of The Art of Winning an Unfair Game knowledge―insights that will give the little guy who is willing to discard old wisdom the edge over big money.Grab Yours Today!!!

Book Description :

Data and evidence don't lie - but for too long, our policy makers haven't paid them nearly enough attention. In 2014, an all-star team of leaders and thinkers from across the political spectrum came together to propose an exciting new vision for the country - one where policy makers base decisions not on politics or expedience, but on the hard evidence of what really works. The first edition of Moneyball for Government did more than just spark conversations; it spurred meaningful action. Now, Michael Gerson and Rajiv Shah join the second edition of the book, as they explain a variety of ways to apply this revolution of rigor to foreign assistance. For anyone who believes that government must do better for America's children and their families, Moneyball for Government is a home run. Contributing authors: Senator Kelly Ayotte, Senator Mark Warner, Glenn Hubbard, Gene Sperling, Melody Barnes, John Bridgeland, Kevin Madden, Howard Wolfson, Michael Gerson, Raj Shah
