Book Description :

This book demonstrates the recent advances in rapid on-site evaluation (ROSE) for differential diagnosis of interstitial lung disease (ILD). Interstitial lung disease is a group of diffuse parenchymal lung disorders affecting the interstitium, a part of the lung's anatomic structure, causing inflammation, scarring, or excess fluid. ILDs include interstitial pneumonia, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, nonspecific interstitial pneumonitis, cryptogenic organizing pneumonia and sarcoidosis, which are associated with various degrees of morbidity and mortality rates. ROSE has proven its value in diagnosis with routine transbronchial lung biopsy (TBLB) procedures, especially in difficult clinical cases. The first part of the book discusses the principals of performing ROSE procedures, reviews the basic concepts and summarizes the distribution and morphology of tracheal/ bronchial/ pulmonary cells. The second part covers specific interstitial disorders, including a number of difficult and rare cases, and features iCT images and cytological illustrations. Providing readers with valuable insights, the book is an important resource for practitioners involved in the care and treatment of patients with ILD. This book is part of the 4-volume collection ROSE in Diagnostic Interventional Pulmonology.

Book Description :

The first edition of this book, published in 2009, was the only book of its kind dedicated exclusively to the diagnosis and management of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD). Over the past few years, new diagnostic tests and treatments of pulmonary arterial hypertension have been developed and tested. Diagnostic testing has led to more frequent and specific diagnosis in PAH patients, leading to the more widespread use of effective treatment and improved quality of life and reduction of mortality for PAH patients. Pulmonary Hypertension and Interstitial Lung Disease: A Clinical Guide, Second Edition provides an updated and expanded state-of-the-art overview of the problems seen by physicians in the clinical management of ILDs. The first section of the book discusses general features and includes an overview of clinical features, diagnosis and pathology of ILD. The second part discusses specific disorders such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, and hypersensitivity pneumonia. Pulmonary Hypertension and Interstitial Lung Disease, Second Edition is an invaluable resource for all physicians whose practice involves the care and treatment of patients with interstitial lung disease.

Book Description :

Interstitial lung diseases are a diverse group of acute and chronic pulmonary disorders characterized by a variable amount of inflammation and/or fibrosis. In Interstitial Lung Disease: Causes, Diagnosis and Treatment, the authors explore the role of genetics in the pathogenesis of interstitial lung diseases, as well as develop new diagnostic modalities and identify novel therapeutic targets. This compilation goes on to discuss acute infiltrative lung disease, a heterogeneous group of lung disorders characterized by diffuse parenchymal lung involvement. This group of infiltrative lung diseases may result in five histopathological presentations: diffuse alveolar damage, diffuse alveolar hemorrhage, immunoallergic pneumonia, acute organizing pneumonia and acute eosinophilic pneumonia. High-resolution computed tomography is proposed as a more sensitive and accurate method in diagnosing interstitial lung disease through specific patterns which are highly suggestive of a subtype of interstitial pneumonia. High-resolution computed tomography is also proposed for the diagnosis of sarcoidosis, a systemic granulomatous disease which involves the lungs in more than 90% of cases. It is one of the leading causes of interstitial involvement in lung diseases, and its diagnosis is based on compatible clinical, biological, imaging and anatomopathological features. The closing chapter aims to identify diagnostic procedures for the early diagnosis of cardio-pulmonary complications, delineate a proper methodology to monitor complications, and define therapeutic guidelines.

Book Description :

This atlas is designed as an easy-to-use reference guide that identifies and illustrates the key patterns of diffuse lung diseases observed on high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) and then documents in more detail the characteristics and appearances of the individual diseases, grouped on the basis of their prevalent pattern. A further feature of the book is its interdisciplinary nature: contributions from experts in various specialties are tightly interwoven throughout and many pathologic correlations are included. Less experienced readers will find that this atlas, with its wealth of figures and helpful color coding, steers them towards correct interpretation when confronted by the multiplicity and complexity of these diseases; those who are already experts, on the other hand, will benefit from the detailed coverage of individual diseases, which will deepen their understanding. At the end of the book, a graphically appealing and practice-oriented illustrated glossary with tips and tricks offers a further highly effective educational tool. Given the clinical spectrum of diseases covered, this atlas will prove invaluable for a wide range of healthcare workers, especially radiologists, pulmonologists, and pathologists.

Book Description :

Diagnostic Atlas of Non-Neoplastic Lung Disease provides the practicing pathologist with the tools necessary to synthesize diagnoses in biopsy and surgical specimens of non-neoplastic lung disease. Classification of non-neoplastic lung disease has become increasingly complex, especially in diffuse lung diseases where terminology has been changing and clinical and radiologic input is advocated for diagnosis. As a result, general surgical pathologists may feel ill-equipped to interpret such specimens. In this heavily illustrated and concisely written book, Dr. Katzenstein, a leading authority in pulmonary pathology, has brought a pattern-based approach to formulating diagnoses in non-neoplastic lung diseases with the non-expert pulmonary pathologist in mind. Chapters are organized according to pattern of lung involvement with the idea that once the pattern is recognized the pathologist can easily find examples and review the relevant disease within the corresponding chapter. Filled with tips and key features to navigate differential diagnosis, Diagnostic Atlas of Non-Neoplastic Lung Disease is an indispensable guide for pathologists who encounter non-neoplastic lung specimens in the lab. Key Features: Written by a respected pulmonary pathologist with over 40 years’ experience in the lab Over 350 high quality illustrative photomicrographs, many with low and high magnification views Emphasizes a pattern-based approach for formulating diagnoses Provides helpful tips for establishing diagnosis and avoiding misdiagnosis Relevant clinical information including patient demographics, presenting manifestations, and radiographic findings where important for pathologic diagnosis
