Book Description :

Child Psychiatry Observed: A Guide for Social Workers is based on the experience of a clinical child psychiatrist, who aims to give an overview of child psychiatry. The book first presents various psychological disturbances as well as its causes. This topic emphasizes the development of psychological disturbances among children since birth, which then develop over time as the child faces various experiences and special cases, such as divorce of the parents, harassment, and separation from the parents. Then, the book gives ideas how to treat a child identified as patient in a clinic, and how the society can help in providing facilities that could help the child recover. The latter part gives an insight into the future of child psychiatry. The text will be invaluable to counselors, child psychiatrists, psychologists, and practitioners in related fields. Parents and students will also benefit from the book.

Book Description :

The Fourth International Symposium on Menière’s Disease was held in Paris in April 1999, in the Montparnasse area close to Prosper Menière’s tomb. This meeting followed the three earlier symposia on Menière’s disease, which have been organized every six years since 1981 in Düsseldorf, Boston and, most recently, in Rome. 1999 saw the bicentenary of Menière’s birth, and to commemorate this, François Legent organized a historical symposium on the different aspects of Prosper Menière’s life. Together with Michel Portmann, the two honorary presidents, Robert Kimura and Jean-Marc Sterkers, gave excellent lectures on the two main topics of Menière’s disease: on experimental endolymphatic hydrops, and the role of both vestibular neurectomy and sac surgery. Numerous papers were presented on research and clinical experiences, and were particularly devoted to the better understanding of both the development of experimental endolymphatic hydrops and the evolution of Menière’s disease. Attention was also drawn to the local treatment of Menière’s disease by the application of drugs to the round window, and furthermore, the indications for and results of surgery for incapacitating vertigo were well defined. Finally, we are pleased to say that this was a very successful meeting and we would like to express our thanks to all the companies, and in particular Solvay Pharmaceuticals, that supported this event. We are certain that the first international symposium of the new millennium on Menière’s disease, which is to be organized by David Lim in the USA, will be even more successful and fruitful than this one. Book Description :

Family Caregiving in the New Normal discusses how the drastic economic changes that have occurred over the past few years have precipitated a new conversation on how family care for older adults will evolve in the future. This text summarizes the challenges and potential solutions scientists, policy makers, and clinical providers must address as they grapple with these changes, with a primary focus given to the elements that may impact how family caregiving is organized and addressed in subsequent decades, including sociodemographic trends like divorce, increased participation of women in the workforce, geographic mobility, fewer children in post-baby boom families, chronic illness trends, economic stressors, and the current policy environment. A section on the support of caregivers includes technology-based solutions that examine existing models, personal health records, and mobile applications, big data issues, decision-making support, person-centered approaches, crowd-sourced caregiving such as blogs and personal websites that have galvanized caregivers, and new methods to combine paid and unpaid forms of care. Provides a concise "roadmap" of the demographic, economic, health trends, and policy challenges facing family caregivers Presents potential solutions to caregiving so that scientists, policymakers, and clinical providers can best meet the needs of families and communities in the upcoming decades Includes in-depth, diverse stories of caregivers of persons with different diseases who share perspectives Covers person-centered care approaches to family caregiving that summarize effective community-based services of psychosocial intervention models Examines how existing efficacious models can more effectively reach and serve individual families
