Book Description :

The Natural Process of Quitting Forever was written over a period of years. It started when I was seeing people who wanted to avoid 12 Step attendances while still wanting to end alcohol and drug problems. The book we were using generated questions and was not specific about quitting forever. I was tape recording and video taping the sessions for my review. I noticed I was answering the same questions over again with different people. I wrote down what I was telling them and started using the essays when I talked with new people. I always encouraged people to criticize what was written for clarity and content. At a point in time, I had enough written where I comb bound the papers with a table of contents and started selling my book. I kept editing and revising and adding to the book until it reached the point of what you are reading today. Author House afforded me the opportunity to publish professionally what I had been publishing and selling using my desktop publishing program with comb binding. It was written talking to people about quitting forever all alcohol and drug use while they read the book for that purpose. People are quitting forever by reading the book The Natural Process of Quitting Forever. It was not something I sat down and wrote but was written because people quitting forever told me it was helpful information leading them along their path to recovery. Check out my web site: quittingforever.org where I explain core concepts using cartoon like graphic illustration with verbal and written explanation. The web site also has some short video explanations by me.

Input Processing and Grammar Instruction in Second Language Acquisition

Input Processing and Grammar Instruction in Second Language Acquisition Book
Author : Bill VanPatten
Publisher : Greenwood Publishing Group
Release : 1996
ISBN : 9781567502374
Language : En, Es, Fr & De

Book Description :

This book provides an alternative to the grammar debate in second language acquisition theory and teaching. Accepting that language acquisition is at least partially input dependent, the author asks how grammatical form is processed in the input by second language learners and is it possible to assist this in ways that help the learner to create richer grammatical intake. He answers these questions and explains why traditional paradigms are not psycholinguistically motivated. Drawing on research from both first and second language acquisition, he outlines a model for input processing in second language acquisition that helps to account for how learners construct grammatical systems. He then uses this model to motivate processing instruction, a type of grammar instruction in which learners are engaged in making form-meaning connections during particular input activities.

Book Description :

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of utilizing explicit instruction, point-of-view video modeling, and augmented reality technology to teach mathematics to students with disabilities. A multiple probe single-case research design was used. Three students with learning disabilities who were receiving special education services in mathematics participated in the study. The results were analyzed using visual analysis of trend, level, and variability. Tau-U was calculated to be 0.98 on the participants overall results from baseline to intervention. The results demonstrated a functional relation between the intervention and the students performance on three rational number mathematics skills. Participants maintenance and generalization of the rational number skills were measured with variable findings. The intervention was determined to be socially valid by the participants and teachers.

Book Description :

Explicit instruction of pronunciation has not been given too much attention at within the second language classroom. This study aimed to study whether the explicit instruction of Spanish vowels improves beginner and intermediate-low Spanish learners' perception and production of these sounds, and which oriented instruction concludes in better performance. In order to carry out this study, three groups of participants were considered for each level. The first group was instructed in a perception-directed instruction, the second group was instructed in a production-directed instruction, and the third group served as a control group since they did not have any explicit teaching. The three groups completed a comprehension and production pre-test, post-test, and delayed post-test. Results showed that overall, explicit production-oriented instruction can benefit the production and the perception of these sounds. Moreover, the beginner learners level was the one who improved the most after the pedagogic intervention. In this way, the current paper suggests some pedagogical implications regarding Spanish pronunciation instruction.

Book Description :

It is my goal, through direct instruction in keyboard techniques and strategies, to open a door for each child, adolescent, or adult, who seeks entrance into the world of performing music.Over my twenty-five plus years of teaching many piano students of all ages and with a wide range of musical capabilities, I have seen a paramount need for comprehensive and methodical physiological support, along with an "I do, we do, you do" pedagogy, in order for many of these students to play successfully and happily at the keyboard.Such support should include hand-finger muscle strengthening, eye-hand-finger-coordination development, and creating a road- map for each piece prior to playing it. I decided to lay down the strategies I've found to work with my students, with the hope that these strategies will help you and other aspiring keyboard players make connections as you learn to play, apply these connections as you study and play new pieces, and develop musical muscle tone, coordination, and muscle memory. These strategies are laid out by concept and do not always follow in order of the student's playing level. Use of any of these strategies is at the parents' and/or teacher's discretion, noting that a strategy that is beyond the student's ability at that time can be returned to at a later time, when the student is ready. Many of the exercises included in this manual require a piano or electronic keyboard. For the purpose of extended practice, or, if a piano or keyboard are not available, and you have a tablet, I recommend one of the following (or similar), free Apps be down- loaded: The Piano by Impala Studios; Virtuoso Piano; Piano for iPhone.I hope that the side benefits of this endeavor will be the confidence you gain as you tackle practicing exercises and pieces on your own, your eagerness to learn new and more challenging pieces, the gratification of playing for yourself and others, and your brain's improved ability to problem-solve on the spot and readily recall information.May you find the exercises presented easy and fun to do, and may you stay with practicing and performing, shored up with tools that support you as you approach each piece. So tone up, stay toned, and enjoy the tone you make with each and every note you play. And remember, muscle tone is the key!
