Most students in training to become teachers, psychologists, physicians, and social workers as well as many practicing professionals in these disciplines do not get the opportunity to fully understand and appreciate the circumstances of children ,parents, and teachers who have had to cope and adapt to childhood disorder. Most professionals in the field of childhood disorders are well trained in assessment and treatment methods and are aware of the clinical, theoretical, and empirical foundations of the work they do. This book provides an opportunity for students in training and professionals in the field to gain some awareness of the life journeys of some exceptional children, their families and their teachers. Book Description :

In the past several years, there has been a great deal of hyperbole disseminated by mass media about "The Top 1%". Most of this press has been negative - casting the 1% as the villains, and the 99% as the victims. Most every major problem in our society, and in individuals' inability to progress, has been blamed on this "elite" income class. Yet, the paradox is that the vast majority of people in America strive every day to become part of that 1%. Why is this? Because most people intuitively understand that the picture of the 1% is largely incorrect at worst, or incomplete at the very least. So, is much of what we've been told about the 1% incorrect? Is there another reality about the 1% that has not been told by the media? And, should you and I aspire to be part of The Top 1%? The answers to these questions are an unqualified "yes". In this compelling book, personal development expert and researcher Dan Strutzel will give you a completely new and ultimately inspiring view of this income class. And, best of all, he will outline the specific things you need to do to become a proud member of The Top 1%. You'll learn: The most popular myths and the "hidden truths" of The Top 1% Why "average is over" and striving for the Top 1% should be everyone's goal - regardless of whether you ever reach that goal The 12 qualities that The Top 1% have in common How to develop an "owner's mentality," not a "consumers mentality" Why you don't "get" your dream job, you "create" it Why traditional goal setting concepts no longer make sense - and will not get you to the top 1% Why you should focus on value and equity, and not on income Why the 1% and the 99% need each other to achieve the greatest level of success and happiness After reading this book, you'll not only have a road map for joining The Top 1%, you'll emerge more inspired and excited about your future and the future of our society.

Book Description :

Past Life Journeys of Gea and Zen is a true story of two spirits whose magnetic bond transcended time and space. It is a collection of books that guides us through several of their reincarnations. Details of Gea’s and Zen’s past lives were retrieved through channeling conducted during actual past life sessions that the author had with a gifted medium. Life Among Native Americans portrays the lives of Gea and Zen in the mid 1400’s, when they were born into Coast Salish tribes as Tala and Spukani. They were tough-skinned survivors who roamed across the hills and valleys of the Pacific Northwest. As a little boy, Spukani acquired healing powers that made him into a distinguished medicine man. He came to save Tala’s life when she was on the verge of death, so they connected and became companions. As their relationship grew, they worked together to heal people from many tribes. Life Among Native Americans is the second book in the collection.

Aside from the normal bends that have entered Linda’s life, she has had several switchback curves that have been extremely hard, dark, and slow to maneuver. Her journey to this point is one that she would never desire for anyone to experience. It is one she truly has not understood herself. Why did she have to take this journey? It was a drunk driver that steered her life in another direction and caused this unbelievable fate to invade her life.

Book Description :

This extensively revised edition of Blacks in the White Establishment? adds fifteen years to the life stories of the African Americans whose opportunities were dramatically changed by a nationally prominent educational opportunity program that provided scholarships for disadvantaged people of color to attend the same elite boarding schools that educate the children of wealthy white Americans. Beyond tracing the individuals into middle age, and expanding coverage of their careers, with special attention to experiences in the corporate world, a new chapter on their children's education and early careers gives the new edition a poignant and unusual intergenerational perspective. Blacks in the White Elite shows why America is at a crucial juncture in relations between blacks and whites, when advances made since the Civil Rights Movement could either continue or retrench, depending on the decisions made by our governments, communities, and schools. The voices of African Americans heard in this book bring home for the reader the everyday impact of national policy issues and debates on race and class in America.

Book Description :

This book describes how a group of young people make decisions about drug taking. It charts the decision making process of recreational drug takers and non-drug takers as they mature from adolescence into young adulthood. With a focus upon their perceptions of different drugs, it situates their decision making within the context of their everyday lives. Changing lives, changing drug journeys presents qualitative longitudinal data collected from interviewees at age 17, 22 and 28 and tracks the onset of drug journeys, their persistence, change and desistance. The drug journeys and the decision making process which underpins them are analysed by drawing upon contemporary discourses of risk and life course criminology. In doing so, a new theoretical framework is developed to help us understand drug taking decision making in contemporary society. This framework highlights the pleasures and risks that interviewees perceive when making decisions whether or not to take drugs. The ways in which their drug journeys and life journeys intersect and how social relationships and transitions to adulthood facilitate or constrain the decision making process are also explored. Qualitative longitudinal research of this kind is uncommon yet it provides an invaluable insight into the decision making process of individuals during the life course. The book will, therefore, be of interest to researchers and students from a variety of disciplines including qualitative research methods as well as sociology, criminology, cultural and health studies. It will also be an important resource for professionals working in health promotion, drugs education, harm reduction and treatment.

If they didn't take the risk, they wouldn't have made that extra income. That also takes a certain mindset. All winning has also-rans who were there as well as the crowd who watched. Book Description :

Palestinian refugees in Gaza have lived in camps for five generations, experiencing hardship and uncertainty. In the absence of official histories, oral narratives handed down from generation to generation bear witness to life in Palestine before and after the 1948 Nakba—the catastrophe of dispossession. These narratives maintain traditions, keep alive names of destroyed villages, and record stories of the fight for dignity and freedom. The Women's Voices from Gaza Series honours women's unique and underrepresented perspectives on the social, material, and political realities of Palestinian life. In A White Lie, the first volume in this series, Madeeha Hafez Albatta chronicles her life in Gaza and beyond. Among her remarkable achievements was establishing some of the first schools for refugee children in Gaza.

Asians make up the largest and most dispersed people of the world, and Christians make up a sizable proportion of this demographic. Asian Christians are more likely to emigrate, and many have continued to embrace Christian faith at their diasporic places of settlement. They are quick to establish distinctively Asian churches all over the world and infuse diversity, revival, and missionary consciousness into their adopted communities. They preserve the ties and cultures of their ancestral homelands while assimilating and adapting into the new setting. They have become a recognizable force in the transformation and advancement of Christianity itself at the beginning of the twenty-first century. The dozen essays in this volume are written by leading scholars of Asian backgrounds situated in various diasporic locations. The authors trace the contours of their dispersion and highlight diverse missiological themes, including the scattering (diaspora) and the gathering (ekklesia) of Asian Christians around the world. This volume traces the origins and destinations of major Asian migration and diaspora communities from a variety of perspectives and geographical locations. It is pan-Asian in scope and multidisciplinary in nature. It also provides the latest data and infographics on Asian diasporas worldwide.

Book Description :

I was going through some bizarre experiences and experiencing sustained witchcraft attacks for about forty-two years. I was not prepared for these bizarre encounters and so didn’t understand what was happening. I only felt the pain, hurt, and social ostracism associated with the attacks. God took over my battles; He taught me how to pray in warfare, sustained me in the trial, took over my battles, and uplifted me in sustained victories. The world must hear my story and know that God is alive, the same yesterday, today, and forever, so that someone else somewhere, going through similar unexplained problems would find succor and solutions to their problems. Through these experiences, I explored the linkages of such attacks to the better understanding, management, and treatment of mental health and behavioral problems of today, and the respective roles for churches, parents and individuals.

Book Description :

By providing a rich ethnography of wartime social processes in the former Maoist heartland of Nepal, this book explores how the Maoist People's War (1996–2006) transformed Nepali society. Drawing on long-term fieldwork with people who were located at the epicentre of the conflict, including both ardent Maoist supporters and 'reluctant rebels', it explores how a remote Himalayan village was forged as the centre of the Maoist rebellion, how its inhabitants coped with the situation of war and the Maoist regime of governance, and how they came to embrace the Maoist project and maintain ordinary life amidst the war while living in a guerilla enclave. By focusing on people's everyday lives, the book illuminates how the everyday became a primary site of revolution of crafting new subjectivities, introducing 'new' social practices and displacing the 'old' ones, and reconfiguring the ways that people act in and think about the world through the process of 'embodied change'.
