Book Description :

Escaping from Bad Decisions presents a modern conceptual and mathematical framework of the decision-making process. By interpreting ordinal utility theory as normative analysis examined in view of rationality, it shows how decision-making under certainty, risk, and uncertainty can be better understood. It provides a critical examination of psychological models in multi-attribute decision-making, and evaluates the constitutive elements of "good" and "bad" decisions. Multi-attribute decision-making is analysed descriptively, based on the psychological model of decision-making and computer simulations of decision strategies. Finally, prescriptive examinations of multi-attribute decision-making are performed, supporting the argument that decision-making from a pluralistic perspective creates results that can help "escape" from bad decisions. This book will be of particular interest to graduate students and early career researchers in economics, decision-theory, behavioral economics, experimental economics, psychology, cognitive sciences, and decision neurosciences. Provides a comprehensive background to the phenomena of bad decisions, considered in their economic, psychological and cognitive aspects Reinterprets existing theories and phenomena and proposes a new overview of decision behaviors by integrating mathematical and psychological perspectives Adapts model-based techniques, such as mathematical model based functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) using mathematical models of the decision process

Book Description :

We all have free will, and are answerable for our actions, but when our most important life decisions are based on childhood brainwashing, abuse, mis-information, and societal pressures, we are destined to make some poor decisions. Should we be forced to suffer for these poor decisions our entire life, or do we have the right to escape from those bad decisions, even if it causes distress for others. The author says yes, we do. We have a right to change the course of our lives such that we free ourselves to pursue the correct path that leads us to happiness and fulfillment. This is the theme of Escaping the Plantation. The plantation in this case being the marriage, corporation, government or religious group that demands we slave for them with little or no reward, and seeks to punish us if we refuse. Only by removing ourselves from the plantation can we ever hope to be truly free. And so that is what we must do. Escape. That is the theme of the five short stores contained herein. The first and last are true and are based on the authors personal experience. The other three are mostly fictional but are representative of the predicaments many of us find ourselves in. I'm sure you will enjoy all five and benefit from them. Steve Walker

Book Description :

In The Ultimate Comeback Tommy Tenney showed us how we can find restoration and healing after even the most egregious errors and from the most hopeless situations. In Tenny's new book, the pilgrimage of Ruth and Naomi to Bethlehem is the springboard for Tenney's message which teaches that many of the things that go wrong in our lives can be resolved or even avoided by adopting some very basic principles. We desperately need to downsize, reprioritize, and sometimes even sacrifice less important things in order to simplify our lives. In doing so, we become unfettered enough to see more clearly where our priorities should lie. We have the tendency to seek temporary satisfaction through a more convenient or more accommodating value system. We settle on whatever gives us permission to do what we want and to acquire what we desire. Ruth possessed the virtues of wisdom, faith, and trust; and employing these while enduring personal crisis, she realized that the very things she needed for inner strength and support were her family traditions. What we find on this journey is that these foundational tenets lead us down a path to a place of peace and contentment, to the Things that Really Matter.

Book Description :

“Many Americans are unsatisfied with politics. Simultaneously, we are hesitant to question the basic soundness of our constitutional system. In this refreshingly provocative book, David Orentlicher explains why it is due time for us to reconsider dominant ideas about the presidency, now arguably our most powerful political institution. Challenging the conventional wisdom that the best executive is necessarily a unitary executive, Orentlicher makes a wonderful case for why ‘two presidents are better than one.’ Sure to be of interest to political scientists, legal scholars, as well as informed citizens justifiably worried about the fate of American democracy, this fascinating book dares to challenge everything you thought you knew about one of our favorite political institutions.”—William E. Scheuerman, Indiana University “Can Orentlicher be serious in calling for a plural executive? The answer is yes, and he presents thoughtful and challenging arguments responding to likely criticisms. Any readers who are other than completely complacent about the current state of American politics will have to admire Orentlicher’s distinctive audacity and to respond themselves to his well-argued points.”—Sanford Levinson, author of Framed: America’s 51 Constitutions and the Crisis of Governance When talking heads and political pundits make their “What’s Wrong with America” lists, two concerns invariably rise to the top: the growing presidential abuse of power and the toxic political atmosphere in Washington. In Two Presidents Are Better Than One, David Orentlicher shows how the “imperial presidency” and partisan conflict are largely the result of a deeper problem—the Constitution’s placement of a single president atop the executive branch. Accordingly, writes Orentlicher, we can fix our broken political system by replacing the one person, one-party presidency with a two-person, two-party executive branch. Orentlicher contends that our founding fathers did not anticipate the extent to which their checks and balances would fail to contain executive power and partisan discord. They also did not foresee how the imperial presidency would aggravate partisan conflict. As the stakes in presidential elections have grown ever higher since the New Deal, battles to capture the White House have greatly exacerbated partisan differences. Had the framers been able to predict the future, Orentlicher argues, they would have been far less enamored with the idea of a single leader at the head of the executive branch and far more receptive to the alternative proposals for a plural executive that they rejected. Like their counterparts in Europe, they might well have created an executive branch in which power is shared among multiple persons from multiple political parties. Analyzing the histories of other countries with a plural executive branch and past examples of bipartisan cooperation within Congress, Orentlicher shows us why and how to implement a two-person, two-party presidency. Ultimately, Two Presidents Are Better Than One demonstrates why we need constitutional reform to rebalance power between the executive and legislative branches and contain partisan conflict in Washington.

Book Description :

To be trapped in poverty is to be trapped in something that you never chose to be in, so it's understandable why so many people are desperate to escape. In this step-by-step guide to escaping poverty, Calvin Morris explains why the four categories may be the only way out. The difference between those who escape and those who don't, may have little to do with how smart they are and more to do with how well they understand the four categories. In this well thought out book, the path to freedom reveals itself to those who truly want to escape. As Morris combines his own experience with the experience of over a hundred other highly successful people -- people who were interviewed for this book, he gives the world a truly workable strategy for escaping poverty. The prison that seems inescapable can be escaped by first learning the principles in this book, then by using those principles to free yourself from the devices that are holding you back. In his own thought-provoking way, Morris introduces the world to what he considers to be the fastest way to break free. His informative and engaging text provides what he argues is a clear advantage to those who want to escape poverty. Some of the topics include: Believing in Yourself Getting the Job You Need Handling Money Making Good Decisions Good and Bad Relationships Taking Advice From Others Staying the Course Avoiding Mistakes Escaping Poverty: The Four Categories is a powerful, life changing book that should be passed on for generations to come. This book is a must read for you if you haven't quite figured out how to distance yourself from poverty. If you have friends, kids, relatives, or co-workers who feel trapped in poverty, then giving them this book might be the deed that breaks them free.

Uncertain computation is a system of computation and reasoning in which the objects of computation are not values of variables but restrictions on values of variables. This compendium includes uncertain computation examples based on interval arithmetic, probabilistic arithmetic, fuzzy arithmetic, Z-number arithmetic, and arithmetic with geometric primitives. The principal problem with the existing decision theories is that they do not have capabilities to deal with such environment. Up to now, no books where decision theories based on all generalizations level of information are considered.
