Book Description :

This book provides wide-ranging information on the progress achieved in the diagnosis, treatment and management of dentine hypersensitivity during the past few years. Recent advances in research, including innovations in the development of desensitizing agents, are fully described and detailed attention is paid to novel clinical approaches and potential future strategies in product development. Introductory chapters cover important aspects of physiology, prevalence and aetiology and advances in diagnosis and in vitro testing techniques for dentine hypersensitivity are discussed. Dentine hypersensitivity is a troublesome clinical condition that continues to perplex the clinician despite the vast array of available treatments that have been formulated to resolve the problem. There continues to be under-reporting of the condition by clinicians and uncertainty over aetiology, diagnosis and effective management. This book will hopefully contribute in combating these deficiencies and assist the clinician in delivering optimal patient care.

“Dentine Hypersensitivity”: Etiology, Diagnosis & Clinical Management with recently developed Treatment Agents. A Comprehensive Review. Dentine hypersensitivity (DHS) is a wide spread painful dental problem that is characterized by short sharp pain arising from exposed dentin in response to several different stimuli. This accepted definition, indicates the need to consider a differential diagnosis to rule out other causes of dental pain before the diagnosis of dentin hypersensitivity is made. The management strategy of this dental problem required a good understanding of the complexity of the condition and the variety of the treatment options. An attempt has been made in this Booklet to review the published literature and provide current opinion on the prevalence, etiology, mechanism, clinical features, diagnosis, treatment as well as the concept of oral health related quality of life among patients with dentine hypersensitivity, using PubMed to find relevant literature published up to date. ….. Book Description :

The Tohoku University Graduate School of Dentistry first introduced the concept of “Interface Oral Health Science”, designed to establish and maintain healthy oral cavities, which are home to a number of mixed systems. Included in those systems are: (1) host tissues such as teeth, mucosa, muscle and bone, (2) parasites and microorganisms cohabiting the surfaces of the oral cavity and (3) biomaterials that are used for the rehabilitation of oral functions. In addition, (4) these systems are subject to severe and complex mechanical forces. Therefore, it is critical to promote dental studies that integrate a wide range of interdisciplinary research as medicine, agriculture, material science, engineering, and pharmacology. With this incentive, international symposiums for interface oral health science have been held several times in the past. The concept has since refined and expanded, the result being the “Biosis-Abiosis Intelligent Interface,” and projects aiming at the creation of highly functional and autonomic intelligent interfaces are ongoing. This book brings together a number of studies on incentives and projects by leading authors. Topics include biosis-abiosis interface of dental implants, biomaterials in interface science, biomedical engineering interface and cell manipulation and tissue regeneration. Readers not only from the field of dentistry but also many related areas will find this book a valuable resource.

Book Description :

Indispensable for dentists, dental students and community dental programs With the mass-marketed introduction of fluoride in toothpaste in the 1950s, toothbrushing with paste became indispensable for good oral health. Both the industry and the dental profession had a shared interest in advocating the widespread correct use of good quality toothpaste. This publication starts with a general introduction on the purpose, history and composition of toothpaste. The following chapters deal with the clinical evidence of its effectiveness in caries prevention, reducing and preventing plaque, gin-givitis, halitosis, and calculus formation, facilitating removal and prevention of extrinsic stain, and preventing dentine hypersensitivity and erosion. Later chapters provide valuable information on the abrasiveness of the pastes, the substantivity of active ingredients in the oral cavity and the possible models to study the effectiveness of the pastes when full-scale clinical trials are not possible. The final chapter focuses on the frequency of toothbrushing and post-brushing rinsing behavior. The book provides indispensable information for dentists, dental students and community dental programs on whether toothpastes can be recommended to patients for specific aims and how to use them to obtain the best effect.

This book, now in an extensively revised third edition, is a superbly illustrated and authoritative reference on tooth wear and its management. This latest edition addresses this growing challenge by describing practical clinical techniques that will aid identification of the aetiological factors responsible for erosion, attrition and abrasion and by offering guidance in the planning and delivery of appropriate patient care. Readers will find helpful information on difficulties encountered in the diagnosis and prevention of tooth wear, problems associated with controlling the process and strategies for providing management solutions. Alongside thorough updates of the original chapters, this new expanded edition includes several entirely new chapters from highly regarded clinicians and researchers from the UK and Europe. This essential clinical guide will meet the needs of dental professionals and dental students alike.
