Book Description :

Enterprise Architecture (EA) is an essential part of the fabric of a business; however, EA also transcends and transforms technology and moves it into the business space. Therefore, EA needs to be discussed in an integrated, holistic, and comprehensive manner. Only such an integrated approach to EA can provide the foundation for a transformation that readies the business for the myriad enterprise-wide challenges it will face. Highly disruptive technologies such as Big Data, Machine Learning, and Mobile and Cloud Computing require a fine balance between their business and technical aspects as an organization moves forward with its digital transformation. This book focuses on preparing all organizations – large and small – and those wishing to move into them for the impact of leveraging these emerging, disruptive, and innovative technologies within the EA framework.

Book Description :

Nowadays, many companies are working in Collaboration Environments (CE) with the purpose of gaining competitiveness in the industry they work for. Everyday it is more frequent to find companies sharing resources, processes, and even customers to attend a business opportunity. These companies come together creating Collaborative Networks (CNs) which strongly depend on technological infrastructure for supporting the interactions between them. The technological infrastructure can be supplied by Collaborative Service Providers (CSPs), that are entities that provide the collaboration tools, software, and all the ICT infrastructure that is necessary to manage the CE and the CNs . In order to satisfy the requirements of the CNs, the CSP must know the different aspects of collaboration, the principles and processes of the network and how to integrate them into the CSP processes. To do so, it is relevant for the CSP to have a holistic view of the company, starting from its operating model which indicates how the CSP operates, what are its relevant information, and its strategies. Then, based on the operating model, an Enterprise Architecture should be implemented. The Enterprise Architecture is a blueprint that describes the whole company, allowing the identification of the interrelated systems, the core processes, and the systems that support the most important processes of the company. The Enterprise Architecture can be represented trough Enterprise Architecture Frameworks, providing methods, models, and standards for effectively describe the entire enterprise. There are many frameworks in the literature, however their designs do not properly describe a CSP. For this reason, this thesis aims to propose an Enterprise Architecture Framework for a Collaborative Service Provider, which integrates the relevant features of the most important frameworks with the characteristics of the CNs in four different levels. To develop the Enterprise Architecture Framework it was necessary to identify the operating model of the CSP, and then select both the characteristics of the CSP and the main characteristics of the CNs. As a result of the literature review, it was possible to identify seven dimensions that comprise the Framework, which keeps the information of the CSP and the CN. The four levels of the Framework were developed, and finally we present a study case which indicates how the Framework can be applied.

Book Description :

Organizing for competitive advantage and profit How can businesses best tap diverse capabilities to generate new ideas, manufacture products, and properly execute strategy? In this groundbreaking, thoroughly researched book, organizational expert Charles Heckscher argues that, in a global network of creation and production, the dominant organizations will be those that master the still-uncodified skills of collaboration--replacing the giants of the past century who thrived on the mastery of bureaucratic systems. Though there has been much discussion of teamwork and alliances in recent decades, Heckscher argues that we are still a long way from fully understanding how to manage fluid and inconstant collaborations; and that this is an area dominated far more by rhetoric than reality. Using a combination of theory and extensive real-life case studies, Heckscher pushes the boundary of organization design and illustrates how companies are able to create new, effective patterns of interactions, and how they can build a culture and infrastructure necessary to support them. For organizational leaders in search of long-term competitive advantage, The Collaborative Enterprise offers sound research findings and invaluable insights.

Book Description :

Enterprise architecture requires an understanding of all technologies, strategies, and data consumption throughout the enterprise. To this end, one must strive to always broaden knowledge of existing, as well as emerging trends and solutions. As a trade, this role demands an understanding beyond the specificities of technologies and vendor products. An enterprise architect must be versatile with the design and arrangement of elements in an extended network enterprise. Intended for anyone charged with coordinating enterprise architectural design in a small, medium, or large organization, Sustainable Enterprise Architecture helps you explore the various elements of your own particular network environment to develop strategies for mid- to long-term management and sustainable growth. Organized much like a book on structural architecture, this one starts with a solid foundation of frameworks and general guidelines for enterprise governance and design. The book covers common considerations for all enterprises, and then drills down to specific types of technology that may be found in your enterprise. It explores strategies for protecting enterprise resources and examines technologies and strategies that are only just beginning to take place in the modern enterprise network. Each chapter builds on the knowledge and understanding of topics presented earlier in the book to give you a thorough understanding of the challenges and opportunities in managing enterprise resources within a well-designed architectural strategy. Emphasizing only those strategies that weather change, Sustainable Enterprise Architecture shows you how to evaluate your own unique environment and find alignment with the concepts of sustainability and architecture. It gives you the tools to build solutions and policies to protect your enterprise and allow it to provide the greatest organizational value into the future.
