Book Description :

"Biblical preaching has not outgrown its usefulness. The methods may vary, but the message remains the same. God's challenge and call to the preacher still come through loud and clear: 'Preach the Word.'" Lloyd M. Perry's Biblical Preaching for Today's World has been helping pastors and speakers preach the Word since 1973. Although the principles Perry originally established are timeless, the needs and concerns of audiences are always changing. To help pastors preach more effectively to today's congregations, Perry has updated his original manuscript. He offers pastors help in understanding and adjusting to the effects television has had on an audience's listening skills. Historical references throughout each chapter will also help preachers learn from yesterday's teachers and styles. Biblical Preaching for Today's World continues to offer sound, time-tested principles for preaching, regardless of the preacher's style. Filled with helpful suggestions, annotated outlines, and solid documentation, it is invaluable reading for all who aspire to preach the Word.

The purpose of our lives is to know the God of the universe who made us and loves us. It is this purpose that biblical preaching meets through explaining God’s word. Biblical preaching centres around proclaiming God’s Word and preachers are to be mouthpieces for God as we encounter the living Christ through Scripture. Jonathan Lamb illustrates the power of God’s Word by focusing our attention on the heart, task and purpose of preaching by leading us through Nehemiah 8:1-12. Reworked to benefit from the authors’ years of experience working alongside indigenous preaching movements around the world, this book includes excellent resources for group studies, preaching preparation and running a preachers’ group.

Book Description :

Since 1980, Haddon Robinson has influenced generations of students and preachers through his widely used classic text, Biblical Preaching, in which he shows preachers how to communicate the Bible's big ideas with precision. But does Robinson's "big idea" approach to expository preaching still work in today's diverse cultures and fast-paced world? The Big Idea of Biblical Preaching, now in paperback, presents a strong defense of the ongoing relevance of this approach to expository preaching. An experienced and skilled group of contributors to this volume includes: Paul Borden, Scott M. Gibson, Duane Litfin, Terry Mattingly, John Reed, Bruce L. Shelley, Donald R. Sunukjian, Joseph M. Stowell III, Bruce K. Waltke, Scott Wenig, and Keith Willhite. This volume is written not only for the current generation of students but also for today's preachers, who will find in the pages of this book a powerful approach to expository preaching.

Book Description :

One objective of this book is to set forth an interest in the Book of Ephesians and the Book of Philippians. Ten studies are developed from Ephesians in order to explain predestination, election, and the richness of God's grace. Chapters 11 and 12 advance God's salvation with an emphasis in Chapter 11 concerning the role of women in sharing the message of redemption. Chapter 13 examines one's life before rebirth and life after rebirth. Chapter 14 looks carefully at arguments adopted to condemn instrumental music in the Christian assembly. The next seven chapters (15-21) investigate several statements from the Book of Philippians with accent upon God working in us to accomplish His outreach to the lost. Three chapters (22-24) look at the purpose of the church, church and ministry, and the identification of the church.Chapter 25 sets forth the biblical date for the Exodus as well as biblical chronology versus liberal chronology. The next chapter (26) looks at the prophetic ministry. Chapters 27 and 28 review the prophet Jonah with an emphasis upon his psychological setback in his first refusal to carry out God's command to go to Nineveh. Chapter 29 discusses God's admonition to Joshua. Chapters 30-32 scrutinize 1 Timothy 2:11-15, which in-depth study is an overview of the Pastoral Epistles. This study seeks an answer to Paul's negative declaration about the participation of women in the church at Ephesus. These particular women were involved in the telling of stories about their gods and goddesses as well as the practice of magic. They did not understand the true nature of Jesus. The next three chapters (33-35) analyze the identity of Jesus. And, finally, Chapter 36 is written from an apologetic viewpoint, which reading concentrates upon the "cell" to demonstrate that there is an Intelligent Designer.

Book Description :

One objective of this book is to set forth the heart of God's Gospel. This volume is composed of a compilation of sermons and in-depth studies designed to strengthen and encourage Christians in their daily walk with God and with one another. Since the Cross of Christ is pivotal to a proper understanding of Christianity, numerous chapters in this book explore the "ins" and "outs" of the importance of the Cross in the lives of God's people. Not only does this book focus upon the scheme of God's redemption and evangelism as a part of every believer's ministry, it also calls attention to Christian apologetics, that is, a defense of Christianity. Three chapters are devoted to this kind of study: (1) Christianity versus Skepticism, (2) Credibility and Candor of the New Testament Writers, and (3) Paul's Conversion: Apologetic for Christianity. Also, this book allocates three chapters to the subject of baptism and its meaning to God's children. And, finally, four chapters are dedicated to a detailed study of worship within the Christian community.Dallas Burdette has been a serious student, teacher and preacher of the Bible for fifty-eight years, supporting himself for many years as an agent for AFLAC. He has written numerous articles for religious journals, as well as many essays and sermons which are available on his website (www.freedominchrist.net). He has developed a keen interest in promoting unity among God's people through a more accurate reading of the Word. He has degrees from Amridge University (formerly Southern Christian University) where he also was Director of Extended Learning for five years. He holds the Doctor of Ministry degree (1999) from Erskine Theological Seminary.

Book Description :

How can one preach effectively on the death of Jesus to a world jaded by stories of suffering and violence? This exegetical book -- written collectively by six authorities on Scripture -- sheds new light on the tremendous power of preaching to challenge and enlarge the world of the listeners. By probing the accounts of Jesus' death in the Gospel of Mark and in Paul's letters, 'Biblical Preaching on the Death of Jesus' uncovers a vision of divine power and justice that calls us to become partners in God's struggle to overcome suffering and injustice in the world. In the cross, the authors demonstrate, we as Christians are given a symbol of both weakness and defeat and of power and victor. This symbol is a magnificent reminder of the redemption and transformation of lives and situations through Christ's identification with suffering. With unusual success, the six authors have written the entire book as a group undertaking. The result is a testimony to the interrelatedness that is central to the vision of process theology. 'Biblical Preaching on the Death of Jesus' will be of immense help to preachers and to students and scholars of New Testament interpretation and systematic theology.
