Book Description :

Axial Spondyloarthritis is a timely addition to the Oxford Textbooks in Rheumatology series, providing a comprehensive reference to this rapidly evolving field. The conceptual framework of the disease has now evolved beyond ankylosing spondylitis to encompass a broader concept of axial inflammation. Earlier recognition has opened the door to earlier intervention, and the understanding of the biologic basis of axial SpA has seen significant advances in recent years. The first textbook to cover axial spondyloarthritis in this level of detail from a global perspective, this volume offers a practical and complete resource compiled by a multidisciplinary and multinational team of experts. Beginning with a historical perspective on the disease, the textbook provides a comprehensive background in the epidemiology, diagnosis, and classification of axial spondyloarthritis. Immune mechanisms and genetics are covered, along with imaging and a detailed section on the range of treatments options currently available. A section on extra-articular manifestations provides a comprehensive knowledge base for the clinician treating patients with spondyloarthritis, and chapters on the economics of the disease, physical functioning, and patient registries complete the broad coverage of the topic. Practical, easy to use, yet detailed with respect to pathophysiology, diagnostics, and management, this textbook provides a comprehensive reference for rheumatologists, general practitioners, internists, and paediatricians managing patients with axial spondyloarthritis.

Book Description :

Ankylosing Spondylitis is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects about 1-3% of the world population. This debilitating disease affecting primarily young males exerts considerable socio-economic consequences. The exact pathogenesis of AS has not yet been fully understood; therefore, novel, detailed information sources are required. This book offers cutting-edge knowledge about the molecular basic and immunological mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of Ankylosing Spondylitis. It is one of the scarce scientific resources discussing the environmental factors triggering the disease, along with the clinical manifestations, diagnostic methods, and treatments. This book covers the most recent and reliable researches and developments about spondyloarthropathies in order to provide elaborated, integrated guidance on the molecular mechanisms of Spondyloarthropathies. It will prove helpful for rheumatologists, immunologists, biologists, geneticists, and medical science students who wish to learn more about SpAs.

Book Description :

An integral feature of the disease is inflammation involving ligament insertion sites and facet joints of the spine as well as the sacroiliac (SI) joints. The condition often affects HLA-B27 positive individuals and belongs to the group of seronegative spondyloarthropathies together with reactive enteroarthritis and uroarthritis, Reiter’s syndrome enthesitis-related arthritis (ERA), a subgroup of juvenile idiopathic arthritis psoriatic arthritis arthropathy associated with inflammatory bowel disease. Several of the above conditions may be encountered in members of the same family, and they may all lead to ankylosing spondylitis. The condition is termed idiopathic when it has become chronic and no causative agent has been detected, unlike in reactive arthritis.

Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting (OGCRs) are listed in full in the Introduction, at the beginning of each chapter, and integrated within the code set, providing easier reference to coding rules when they are needed most. Unique! Full-color anatomy plates (including Netter’s Anatomy art) are included in a separate section for easy reference and cross-referenced within the Tabular List of Diseases and Injuries, to help users understand anatomy and how it may affect choosing codes. Full-color design includes consistent color-coded symbols and text, providing easier access to codes and coding information. American Hospital Association's Coding Clinic® citations include official ICD-10-CM coding advice relating to specific codes and their usage. More than 180 illustrations provide visual orientation and enhance understanding of specific coding situations. Items are included throughout the Tabular List to ensure accurate coding, providing additional information on common diseases and conditions. Additional elements within specific codes define terms and add coding instructions relating to difficult terminology, diseases and conditions, or coding in a specific category. Symbols and highlights draw attention to codes that may require special consideration before coding, including: new, revised, and deleted Unacceptable Principle Diagnosis Codes that call for the use of additional character(s) Includes, Excludes 1 and Excludes 2 Use Additional Unspecified Code First and Code Also Placeholder X symbol reminds users to assign placeholder X for codes less than 6 characters that require a 7th character. Manifestation code symbol identifies conditions for which it is important to record both the etiology and the symptom of the disease. HCC symbol indicates diagnoses in the Tabular List associated with Hierarchical Condition Categories. Age and Sex edits from the Definition of Medicare Code Edits help to ensure accuracy by denoting codes that are used only with patients of a specific age or sex.

Book Description :

Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) and related diseases called spondyloarthropathies (SpA) are the second most common form of chronic inflammatory arthritis after Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). Unfortunately, most patients with AS and SpA are either never diagnosed, or they are inadequately treated. The current mean delay in the diagnosis of AS ranges from 5 to 10 years, and the presenting clinical manifestations of these diseases are wide-ranging and heterogeneous, and thus a variety of health care professionals see AS and SpA patients, from primary care physicians to rheumatologists and other medical and surgical specialists. With the availability of newer, highly effective treatments and better methods of musculoskeletal imaging, such as the MRI, there is an urgent need to improve early diagnosis and reduce any inappropriate delay in obtaining effective treatment. Earlier diagnosis and treatment can mitigate the severity of the disease, and make a meaningful difference for patient care and quality of life. The proposed book is designed for specialists and generalists alike, and is intenteded to expedite accurate diagnosis and initiation of appropriate treatment in order to alleviate unnecessary suffering. Part of the new Oxford American Rheumatology Library series, this pocket-sized book provides practical, evidence-based information for clinicians to aid diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care for patients with AS and SpA. The book provides pointers to early diagnosis, prognosis, clinical manifestations, socioeconomic aspects, and disease management. It also provides comprehensive coverage of current treatment options, including the latest biologics, as well as non-drug therapies.

Book Description :

Spondyloarthritis or spondylarthropathy is a group of inflammatory diseases that affect the joints and the entheses where tendons and ligaments attach to bones. It is a major cause of arthritis of the spine and of the peripheral joints, particularly those in the hands, arms, feet and legs. Psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, enteropathic arthritis and reactive arthritis are some of its different forms. It occurs due to genetic factors of inheritance, with close to 30 genes linked with this condition. Spondyloarthritis is characterized with low back pain, which if not controlled, may lead to fusion of the vertebrae and limited spinal mobility. Intermittent joint inflammation accompanied by fatigue, swelling in the arms and legs, osteoporosis, inflammation of the aortic heart valve, psoriasis, redness of the eyes, and intestinal inflammation are some other symptoms of spondyloarthritis. It can be treated with NSAIDs, corticosteroids, disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs, TNF-alpha blockers and antibiotics. This book is a valuable compilation of topics, ranging from the basic to the most complex advancements in the management and treatment of spondyloarthritis. It presents this complex disease in the most comprehensible and easy to understand language. This book will help new researchers by foregrounding their knowledge in this condition.
