Book Description :

Auriculotherapy Manual: Chinese and Western Systems of Ear Acupuncture provides a comprehensive guide to the practice of Chinese and Western systems of ear acupuncture. This impressive new edition utilizes 3-D models of the external ear, as well as 3-D anatomical images, to demonstrate the somatotopic relationship between particular parts of the body and specific regions of the auricle. This is the first ear acupuncture text that has incorporated 3-D technology in order to present amazing images of the auricle which precisely indicate ear acupoint positions. The book offers in-depth evaluation of the theoretical and clinical underpinnings of auriculotherapy, describing and illustrating over 200 ear acupuncture points and more than 200 auriculotherapy treatment protocols for clinical discorders ranging from chronic pain to substance abuse to visceral and neurological disorders. There are an expanded number of auricular landmarks that are utilized to guide the practitioner in accurately determining the precise location of hidden ear points on the 3-D model. These landmarks further reveal the varied depth perspectives of the external ear. The ear reflex points presented in this manual are based upon systematic research conducted at the UCLA Pain Management Center and upon the extensive clinical findings of medical doctors and acupuncturists in China and Europe over the past 50 years. Scientific and clinical information from the most recent international symposia of auricular acupuncture have been used to update the scientific and clinical knowledge presented in this fourth edition. Each chapter is organized in same basic order, beginning with an introductory overview, progressing to the main topics in the chapter, and ending with a section listing a definition of terms and a set of preparatory sample questions. The book is concise and clear enough for students yet provides provides sophisticated clinical approaches to allow the experienced practitioner to enhance and complement their existing treatment strategies.

Book Description :

In classical Chinese medicine, the ear is considered an extraordinarily powerful nexus of energy through which the entire body can be treated. Unlike numerous texts that apply Western approaches to Eastern medicine, Chinese Auricular Acupuncture explains ear acupuncture within the framework of traditional Oriental energetics consistent with the use of the medicine. Written by an esteemed practitioner and teacher of auricular acupuncture, this modern, user-friendly guide provides students and practitioners with a concise manual on ear acupuncture. High-quality photos illustrate common ear pathology and include instruction on diagnosis. The text features Chinese clinical energetics of ear acupoints interfaced with the most common diagnostic paradigms. It also contains a detailed discussion of how to construct prescriptions tailored to the patient rather than the disease process. This unique book simplifies the art of auricular acupuncture by relying solely on the traditional Chinese ear map rather than a set of complex charts and systems. This approach explains the practical utilization of auricular therapy in a manner that is memorable, clinically useful, and based on the underpinnings of an education in traditional Chinese medicine.

Book Description :

George MacDonald's poetry, fairy tales, fantasies, and fiction clothe his deep spiritual insights. His sermons, lectures, essays, and novels demonstrate his wide range of interest in literary as well as religious thought. MacDonald's letters, several biographies and anthologies, all published near the end of the twentieth century, show the remarkable quality of his life and his compassionate inner being. All of MacDonald's books are now in print. George MacDonald Exposes False Conflicts is the only book to bring the rich, healing insights of nineteenth century George MacDonald into the present so that they interact with contemporary religious and scientific movements and conflicts. MacDonald discovered that certain inherited beliefs contain hidden conflicts between Jesus and God, between divine justice and divine mercy, and between science and religion. This book offers George MacDonald's powerful, plausible, and enlivening ways to think about these relationships.

Abstract: TCM-based diagnostic classification is the essence of Chinese medicine theories and remains as the foundation for individualized remedies. The philosophy of TCM syndrome stratification of Excess and Deficiency is an empirical concept yet to need scientific recognition. This thesis reported two studies which were conducted by employing the concept of Excess and Deficiency classifications as the major axis, with a view to identify prominent epidemiological and electrophysiological changes in insomnia among different internal equilibrium conditions. The paper started with a comprehensive literature review outlining the updated prevalence, diagnosis and conventional treatment of insomnia. An introduction of Chinese medicine perspectives of the disease was also discussed, serving grounds for the conduction of the two studies covered in this thesis. The first study was an epidemiological survey examining the differences in Chinese medicine syndromes concerning subjects' demographic, sleep pattern, medical-seeking behavior, clinical outcome and emotion scores. Significant associations were found between Chinese medicine syndromes and gender, work hour, duration of insomnia and several related sleep parameters, as well as clinical outcome for herbal prescriptions and proprietary medicines. Inertia to proper medical care was observed and emotion scores from validated scales showed psychiatric attention should be required in large proportion of the sample. Awareness of insomnia should be raised in prevention for adverse consequences of unattended symptoms. The second study was an electrophysiological research summarizing the electrical conductivity of selected acupuncture points commonly used for treating insomnia. Subsequent analysis was also conducted from the TCM-based diagnostic perspectives to compare such measurements among healthy volunteers and insomniacs of Excess and Deficiency syndromes. Conspicuous differences were discovered in the entire set of auricular acupuncture points being tested, as well as some of the body acupuncture points. The study warranted quantifiable changes in electric current of acupuncture points upon stratification of Chinese medicine syndromes. The breakthrough guaranteed the significance of syndrome classification in the course of diagnosis and treatment procedures for insomnia. In conclusion, our work consolidated evidence for the importance in TCM-based diagnostic classification in insomnia. This might provide insight for future advancement of related Chinese medicine research in the field of sleep medicine. Subjects: Insomnia - Diagnosis Medicine, Chinese
