Book Description :

A major New York Times bestseller by NBC’s Chief Foreign Correspondent Richard Engel—this riveting story of the Middle East revolutions, the Arab Spring, war, and terrorism seen close up “should be required reading” (Booklist, starred review). In 1997, young Richard Engel, working freelance for Arab news sources, got a call that a busload of Italian tourists was massacred at a Cairo museum. This is his first view of the carnage these years would pile on. Over two decades he has been under fire, blown out of hotel beds, and taken hostage. He has watched Mubarak and Morsi in Egypt arrested and condemned, reported from Jerusalem, been through the Lebanese war, covered the shooting match in Iraq and the Libyan rebels who toppled Gaddafi, reported from Syria as Al-Qaeda stepped in, and was kidnapped in the Syrian cross currents of fighting. Engel takes the reader into Afghanistan with the Taliban and to Iraq with ISIS. In the page-turning And Then All Hell Broke Loose, he shares his “quick-paced...thrilling adventure story” (Associated Press). Engel takes chances, though not reckless ones, keeps a level head and a sense of humor, as well as a grasp of history in the making. Reporting as NBC’s Chief-Foreign Correspondent, he reveals his unparalleled access to the major figures, the gritty soldiers, and the helpless victims in the Middle East during this watershed time. His vivid story is “a nerve-racking...and informative portrait of a troubled region” (Kansas City Star) that shows the splintering of the nation states previously cobbled together by the victors of World War I. “Engel’s harrowing adventures make for gripping reading” (The New York Times) and his unforgettable view of the suffering and despair of the local populations offers a succinct and authoritative account of our ever-changing world.

When all hope was lost. And when all the killing started... WHEN ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE It's one of the great mysteries of the Old West. The unexplained disappearance of a hunting party of Prussian nobles who entered the American wilderness--and never returned. Now, years later, the Prussian government demands an explanation. In response, the U.S. Army hires Preacher and Jamie MacCallister to join their search party--along with a band of Prussian soldiers led by the sinister Baron Adalwolf von Kuhner. Some believe it's a hopeless mission, that the original party was slaughtered by the Blackfeet. Others think there may be survivors, most likely women held captive as slaves. But it doesn't take Preacher and MacCallister long to learn the horrible truth... This is no rescue mission. It's a massacre in the making. And when the hunters become the hunted, all hell breaks loose...

Book Description :

The city is riddled with bullet holes and fear as dead bodies block the streets. No one signed up for this. When the officers took their oath they didn't think that they would have to risk everything to save the city. They have gone beyond the line of duty and crossed over into a city flooded with chaos, a fight no one was ready for. An officer's investigation uncovered an evil no one was ready for and no one knows how to stop. When a ruthless killer has money and loyal associates, it ignites a war that is burning the city to the ground. And when they think things cannot get any worse, all hell breaks loose.Jessica side-swipe and ram cars as she cuts through traffic. Hazel fires his AR-15, as he hangs out of the window, at the state trooper. The bullets shatter the trooper's windshield blinding him. The next swarm of bullets hit the trooper in the neck and twice in the vest. The trooper floors the gas pedal as he releases the steering wheel and tries to stop the blood squirting out of his neck. The trooper's car rear-ends the Porsche and pushes the Porsche into an SUV. The SUV spins out of control and Jessica steps on the brakes, but the Porsche still slides into the SUV. Hazel flies out of the Porsche's window and lands on the street, rolling to a stop. Two cars swerve to avoid hitting Hazel. The approaching traffic swerves and spins causing a chain reaction of accidents. Resulting in a ten-car pileup putting the traffic behind it at a standstill. Hazel stumbles to his feet and picks up his AR-15. He looks at all of the crash victims arguing with them as he spits blood on their vehicles. Hazel walks to the Porsche and finds Jessica's bloody head on the dashboard and Tunnel's head resting on the cracked passenger side window. Hazel opens the driver's door and pulls Jessica out of the car and lays her next to the wheel. Hazel opens the passenger side door and catches Tunnel as he falls out of the car. "We have to go. I need you to wake up." Hazel told Tunnel. Tunnel groans in pain as blood cascades down his face. "Come on!" Hazel tells Tunnel, as he helps him to his feet. He grabs Tunnel's gun and the bag of guns from the car. Hazel carries Jessica across the median and into northbound traffic. Tunnel shoots at the oncoming cars trying to get them to stop, but some cars just speed by while other cars crash into the guardrail. Hazel carries Jessica into the woods. "Come on!" Hazel yelled to Tunnel; who stands in the middle of the highway trying to stop cars with his bullets. The sirens and police helicopters are getting closer. Tunnel wipes the sweat and blood from his face then follows Hazel into the woods. The weight of Jessica and the bag of guns is slowing Hazel down and causing sweat to soak his clothes. Hazel drops the bag then sits Jessica up against a tree. "Leave me here. I will be ok." Jessica told him. Tunnel gives Jessica and long kiss. Hazel spots an officer hiding behind a tree talking on his walkie talkie. Hazel raises his AR-15, looks through the scope, and shoots the officer in the head. "Give me a gun, I will hold them off." Jessica told them. Hazel reaches in the bag and gives her a handgun and an AR-15. Tunnel kisses her on the forehead before he walks away with Hazel. Hazel and Tunnel stop walking when they hear Jessica exchanging gunfire with the police. The helicopter circles above her. Tunnel turns around and heads for her, but Hazel grabs his arm. Hazel and Tunnel continue their escape. When the gunfire stops Hazel and Tunnel freeze, knowing the worst has happened. Tunnel and Hazel hear Jessica scream, "Fuck you bitches!" Then they jump out of their skin when they hear a loud gunshot that ends Jessica's life. They keep moving before they're surrounded by the responding officers. The helicopter circles above the woods and the sound of police radios trail behind them. Thirteen police officers and two K-9's are closing in fast.Federal agents have been landing in Maryland nonstop to join the manhunt.

Book Description :

A "Tin Can" is what Navy men call a destroyer. This book is source material with charm; it's history with a twinkle. From the mind-numbing boredom of the pre-WWII Navy to the high drama of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, you will be there. You will see the Arizona blow up & feel the explosion under your feet in the company of the men who were there & were fighting back before the country knew it was at war. This book speeds up here to keep up with events, slows down there to admire the scenery, & turns an odd corner now & then to take a quirky look at human nature, especially civilian human nature exposed to the official majesty of the United States Navy. The eyes & mind behind this book are like no others & you don't want to miss it. A lot of careful research has gone into THE SQUARE PEG. Everything that is said to have happened, did happen, just as described, but this is no dull rote recital. The viewpoint is fresh, intelligent, irreverent, & unblinkingly honest. Jesse Pond is a fighter & a survivor & when you were a square peg in a round Navy, & moored at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, that turned out to be a good way to go. The Japanese never really had a chance, & after reading this book, all of you, from grandparents to the youngest readers, will know why.

Book Description :

The author repositions anthropology at the heart of the creation of meaning--in terms of what anthropology perceives, how it goes about representing its subjects, and how it understands and legitimizes itself. Of particular concern is that meaning is comprehended and created through a complex process predicated on what is not there--the unspoken, the unheard, the unknown--as much as on what is there. Such powerful absences, described by the author as "anti-twins," are crucial for the invention of cultures and any discipline that proposes to study them. Coyote anthropology should be as much concerned with absence as with presence if it is to depict accurately the dynamic and creative worlds of others. Furthermore, the author suggests that anthropologists not only be aware of what informs and conditions their discipline but also understand the range of necessary exclusions that permit anthropology to do what it does.
