Book Description :

Few heavy metal acts survived the turmoil of the early 1990s music scene. Pantera was different. Instead of humoring the market, the band instead demanded that the audience come to them by releasing a series of fiercely uncompromising, platinum albums, including Vulgar Display of Power and Far Beyond Driven—two #1 albums that, like Metallica’s And Justice for All, sold millions of copies despite minimal airplay. Rex Brown’s memoir is the definitive account of life inside one of rock’s biggest bands, which succeeded against all odds but ultimately ended in tragedy when iconic lead guitarist Darrell “Dimebag” Abbott was murdered mid-performance by a deranged fan. This is a lucid account of the previously untold story behind one of the most influential bands in heavy metal history, written by the man best qualified to tell the truth about those incredible and often difficult years of fame and excess.

Book Description :

Pantera was an American heavy metal band from Arlington, Texas. The group was formed in 1981 by the Abbott brothers - drummer Vinnie Paul and guitarist Dimebag Darrell - along with lead vocalist Terry Glaze. Bassist Rex Brown joined the band the following year, replacing Tommy D. Bradford, who was the unofficial original. Having started as a glam metal band, Pantera released four albums during the 1980s. Looking for a new and heavier sound, Pantera replaced Glaze with Phil Anselmo in late 1986 and released Power Metal in 1988. With its fifth album, 1990's Cowboys from Hell, Pantera introduced a groove metal sound. Pantera's sixth album, 1992's Vulgar Display of Power, exhibited an even heavier sound. Far Beyond Driven (1994) debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.

Book Description :

In this brutally honest, no-holds-barred memoir, Philip Anselmo, former frontman of the legendary metal band Pantera, finally tells his side of the story—on everything from the band’s meteoric rise to the murder of guitarist Darrell Abbott onstage. From bar band obscurity to the bright spotlight of the world’s stage, Anselmo helped lead Pantera to world domination. He soared to the top with the first extreme metal album to debut at #1 on the Billboard music charts with Far Beyond Driven in 1994. He turned a bar-bumping glam metal band into the heaviest, most extreme, and most successful heavy metal unit since Metallica. But the ride to the top wasn’t easy. Soon after Far Beyond Driven topped the charts, Anselmo hit rock bottom at the band’s celebrated return gig in Dallas, Texas, where he was declared clinically dead for more than four minutes after he overdosed on heroin. He later watched Pantera disintegrate due to backbiting, alcohol and drug abuse, and chronic pain. And in addition to nearly killing himself, Anselmo has been blamed for killing the band and wrongfully accused as the reason his best friend and guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott was murdered onstage by a deranged fan. Anselmo’s rise to the top of the heavy metal heap as the ultimate frontman is the stuff of modern-day legend. Finally, he tells all in this fascinating narrative of his hard-won music career with incredible highs and devastating lows. Mouth for War is the hard, honest, brutal truth.

Book Description :

Return Of The King tells the story of a tumultuous period in the life of Elvis Presley. By 1967, The King Of Rock 'n' Roll was all but washed-up, thanks to a string of bland movie roles and lackluster records. But within a year he had roused himself, loosened the creative shackles imposed by his grasping manager, 'Colonel' Tom Parker, and reconnected with the rock audience through a riveting TV special. There followed a glorious but all too brief artistic flowering, in which he made some of his most enduring records, including 'Suspicious Minds' and 'In The Ghetto.' This meticulously researched and elegantly written book, based on a string of new interviews with colleagues, friends, fans, and observers of The King, sheds new light on the events of Elvis's great comeback.

Book Description :

FEATURING A FOREWORD BY COREY TAYLOR OF SLIPKNOT For lack of a better term, Lou Brutus is a "Professional Music Fan." He lives the dream of millions by traveling the Earth attending concerts and interviewing rock stars. He's spent his life blasting tunes on the radio, becoming the first to play all of your favorite bands, and gaining access to literally thousands of music events. There is no one in the media who has seen more shows or conducted more on-site interviews than Lou. Sonic Warrior is a collection of insane-but-true stories from the career of Rock Radio legend Lou Brutus. Each chapter is a separate tale that careens around his 40+ years of covering concerts, interviewing music's biggest stars, and influencing generations of radio listeners. Starting with the first show he attended (Black Sabbath at New York City's Madison Square Garden in December 1976, where he threw up Boone's Farm Strawberry Wine all over his older sister's boyfriend) and continuing to the present day (where he doesn't puke as much). Stops along the way include Live Aid in Philadelphia (where he threw up on the entire crowd from a helicopter), the Arctic (where he didn't throw up on anyone but did get in a mosh pit with the native Inuit villagers as Metallica performed a song about sodomizing a goat), Live Earth in London (where he chugged ale with Spinal Tap's "Stonehenge" dwarfs and almost threw up), and the New Jersey Turnpike (where the tour bus he was traveling in ran over a guy, which is much worse than throwing up). Whether having his life energy drained through the palm of his hand by Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, watching cocaine get snorted off a stripper's ass in Pantera's dressing room, or drooling in his own lap after smoking some kind of mutant mind warp demon weed with Snoop Dogg, Brutus gives a hilariously unvarnished look at the realities of the music industry from his fly-on-the-wall, "I'm just the guy here to interview the band" vantage point. The book also features a Foreword by his friend Corey Taylor, Grammy Award winning singer for Slipknot and Stone Sour, as well as an original illustration for each chapter by artist Alan MacBain.
