Book Description :

This is a biography of Dr Felicia Wu. Felicia was a scientist with a successful career in cancer research, but what marked the most extraordinary aspect about her life was her journey as a truly brave cancer patient and an incredibly determined cancer fighter. Originally, this book was intended to be an autobiography written and narrated by Felicia herself. She wanted to share with other cancer sufferers her 13 long years of experience fighting cancer to prepare them for the side effects and uncertainties of the treatment, and also to encourage them to brace and face their own treatment without fear. What she did not realize then was that her time was ticking away, and her life trickling off quickly. Writing her own autobiography proved to be an impossible task. Felicia succumbed to the prolonged battle and departed from this world. Her husband, Dr Cheng-Wen Wu, finished the uncompleted task of writing the book in loving memory of her. The biography of Felicia, originally published in Chinese edition, has been recommended as a reading model for students in schools and was nominated for an award in Taiwan. Felicia''s story had also inspired the production of a documentary film entitled, OC A Passion for Life, OCO funded and sponsored by The American Cancer Society. This biography of Felicia in English edition, painstakingly translated by Dr Cheng-Wen Wu and his collaborating translator, Ms Annie Chen, will certainly live up to its original premise as an inspiration to touch more lives and as a source of strength to all who encounter difficulty, disappointment and hurt at any point of their lives. Book Description :

Millions of people around the world and across nations are victims of the lives they lived or are living. Lack of understanding life is a disease worse than any other. Many of us do not know life itself has a life of its own. But the truth is, it does. If life wasn’t alive none of us will be here to even have the thoughts we’re having at this present moment. Everything we do as living things falls under some aspect of life. Some of these aspects are life, love, and the mind’s eye. These aspects bring forth various teachings and also take us through different stages in life. With these stages comes the understanding of life, knowing how to live and also the application of what we learn from these aspects to the lives we live. Life’s Passion, a collection of poems, doesn’t simply give you an understanding of life and its branches; it successfully does what all literary works were meant to do: provoke thought, evoke emotions, and promote dialogue.

Roxolana in European Literature History and Culture

ISBN : 1317061179
Language : En, Es, Fr & De

Book Description :

This collection is the first book-length scholarly study of the pervasiveness and significance of Roxolana in the European imagination. Roxolana, or "Hurrem Sultan," was a sixteenth-century Ukrainian woman who made an unprecedented career from harem slave and concubine to legal wife and advisor of the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent (1520-1566). Her influence on Ottoman affairs generated legends in many a European country. The essays gathered here represent an interdisciplinary survey of her legacy; the contributors view Roxolana as a transnational figure that reflected the shifting European attitudes towards "the Other," and they investigate her image in a wide variety of sources, ranging from early modern historical chronicles, dramas and travel writings, to twentieth-century historical novels and plays. Also included are six European source texts featuring Roxolana, here translated into modern English for the first time. Importantly, this collection examines Roxolana from both Western and Eastern European perspectives; source material is taken from England, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Turkey, Poland, and Ukraine. The volume is an important contribution to the study of early modern transnationalism, cross-cultural exchange, and notions of identity, the Self, and the Other.

Book Description :

In a culture increasingly secular in its pursuits and indifferent to the voice of the church, how may we ignite the fire for ministry that will bring the gospel to the world? How can weary pastors be sustained amidst a climate of doubt and resistance? For more than half a century, three remarkable brothers have offered a vision that has inspired thousands in churches and seminaries. Today, their message remains fresh and relevant as we enter a new millennium. And for one reason: The Brothers Torrance share a passion for Christ--the Christ of the Scriptures, the Christ of the historic Nicene faith. These essays distill the essence of their thought, and shine with the clarity of their shared vision. A Passion for Christ is a light of encouragement for ministers and lay people elsewhere.

Book Description :

Millennial generation. Generation Y. The underdeveloped generation. The lazy kids. The tweeters. The ones always on their smart phones. The ones who feel entitled. It is no secret that millennials--young adults born between 1980 and 2000--are stereotyped. Some think we're lazy, some think we are so engrossed in technology that we don't have the drive to be successful (don't forget to tweet that), and some believe that we are the most optimistic generation around. Whether positive or negative, this book has been designed to help tear down those stereotypes and help focus on what truly matters: who we are as young adults and who we can become. It only takes one person, one soul, and one stand to change nations; and that one person is you. This book will unveil what it takes to be a leader of this generation by uncovering the innate possibilities within ourselves. My mission is to bridge the gap between the millennial generation and the generation before us by teaching instruments of communication. Are you a person who desires to step out in courage and follow your passion so that your dreams can become a reality? If your answer is yes, then it's time for a millennial makeover.
